First appearance | Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time |
Greater location | Mushroom Kingdom |
Inhabitants | Pokeys, Bob-ombs, Shrooba Divers |
The Gritzy Desert is a large, barren desert in the northeastern-most part of the Mushroom Kingdom appearing in Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time. There is also evidence of remains of train tracks or mine-carts tracks.
In the game, the Mario Bros. arrive here during their quest to find the Cobalt Star pieces. The Koopaseum is located in the middle of the desert and Gritzy Caves is found below the desert. When Mario, Luigi, Baby Mario, and Baby Luigi attempt to enter the Koopaseum through the front door, they run away when a hoard of Shroobs from inside chases after them. After the group manages to escape all but one Shroob, Mario meets Kylie Koopa, who informs him about a secret entrance to the Koopaseum that is unlocked by activating four Dry Bones statues scattered around the desert, while Luigi, Baby Mario, and Baby Luigi are chased by the Shroob, eventually defeating it.

Trivia[edit]
- If the Mario bros. try to enter the main part of the Gritzy Desert before opening the Koopaseum front door, they will see Shroobs blocking the way.
- In Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, the stage Mushroomy Kingdom features an arrangement of Gritzy Desert's music from Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time among other tracks. This arrangement also has an extended part that was not in the original track.
