Anagrams

Written by: BBQ Turtle (talk)

Hi everyone, welcome to this month's edition of anagrams! This month, I've decided to go with a theme of all kinds of royalty- princes, princesses, kings and queens. I'm sure you'll have a regally good time! If you fancy suggesting a theme, please let me know on my talk page or in a PM to me on the forums, I'd love to hear from you. Any Mario-related anagrams you can come up with would be more than welcome too! I hope you have a royal good time solving these!

How it works...
Basically, this puzzle consists of solving the anagrams. Each month has a specific theme, which will give you a clue about what sort of words or phrases the anagrams will be. I've also included the boxes that the anagrams will fit into, so you'll be able to tell how many words it will solve to be and how many letters will be in each word, which should give you a hand too. You'll also notice that within each set of boxes, one of the squares are yellow. As you solve each anagram, note down the letter which appears in the yellow squares, and if you can solve all of the anagrams, you'll also get a bonus anagram to solve from completing all of the others. I've included the letter configuration for this one at the bottom too, just to give you an extra helping hand. Best of luck!

Word Search

Written by: Shoey (talk)

Hello and welcome to another exciting Word Search! The first of my new directorship! This month is in honor of the impending rerelease of the NES classic Felix the Cat on the Nintendo Switch, a great game everyone should play. We have a puzzle all about the various eras of Felix the Cat. From the original silent era, to the more well-known Joe Oriolo era of televised shorts. We even have a little representation from the disastrous film and twisted tales era. There's even a small reference to my favorite Felix the Cat thing: the Betty Boop and Felix comic strip, which is just Garfield but with Felix and Betty Boop playing Garfield and Jon respectively. This month words can be found vertically, diagonally, horizontally, backwards, and finally inside other words! As always have fun and stay safe!

Hiding Koopa

Written by: Waluigi Time (talk)

Hello there, 'Shroom readers! Guess what just got released (by the time you're reading this, not when I'm writing this!)? That's right, it's Mario vs. Donkey Kong! Again! But this time it's for the Switch. From what I've heard, the Mini-oriented gameplay that began with the second game and dominated the rest of the series since then hasn't been super popular, so Nintendo decided to just pull a Paper Mario and recycle one of the games people actually liked. Anyway, my commentary on Nintendo's business practices aside, those sneaky Koopas are getting in on the fun by hiding in this piece of artwork for the game. This time around, there's six of them to find! No reason for the change, I just accidentally added an extra and decided to roll with it. Good luck!

It's aMAZEing

Written by: Ninja Squid (talk)

Hello 'Shroom readers! It's time for another maze, so welcome to It's aMAZEing! By the way, did you know that 2024 is the year of the dragon? Fittingly, I managed to find a dragon worthy of a maze. Indeed, it's none other than superboss Bonetail from Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. This took me so long to put together! I was not aware that putting all the bones together from that beast could be a puzzle on its own. So, Wright Forde 'Shroom here suggested to me that I should ask for the assistance of Professor Toad. Thankfully, now it's all back in pieces and the Fun Stuff office was apparently big enough for Bonetail!

Have fun solving the maze, and rest assure that Bonetail will not eat you while you try doing so... Well, I think so...

Anyway, good luck!

Connections

Written by: Roserade (talk)

Greetings, beautiful 'Shroom readers! Welcome to this February edition of Connections! Seems like I've mixed up those pesky sixteen terms again... Can you help me put them back together again?

How it works:
Below is a table of sixteen different words, all of them with some sort of connection to the Mario series. These words correlate in sets of four, and it's up to you to figure out which words belong to a set! Work through the grid and decide which words are connected. Once you think you have the answer, check against the provided answers. If you get stuck along the way, feel free to utilize the clues. There's only one correct answer, so be on the lookout for words that feel like they might fit in more than one category. Good luck!

Lakeside Turnip Lightning Baby
Sparky Bandit Squeek Moon
Music Toady Zap Pinna
Magic Cherry Pixl Bob-omb
Clue 1

Start with "Pixl"

Clue 2

I wonder if this block has any free ___...

Clue 3

Perhaps I should ponder my ___.

Answer
  1. Sparky, Bob-omb, Squeek, Pixl: Paper Mario partner species
  2. Lakeside, Baby, Music, Pinna: ___ Park
  3. Bandit, Toady, Zap, Magic: Mario Party orbs
  4. Turnip, Lightning, Moon, Cherry: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe cups

How did you do? Did you figure out the connections? Thanks for playing!

Where in the Marioverse is Carmen Sandiego?

Written by: FunkyK38 (talk)

HOW TO PLAY

Each issue, you will be given a case to solve and clues to use to help you find the solution! Use your Mario knowledge to crack the case!

You will begin each case at the scene of the crime, and you will be given three clues from passerby as to where the next hot spot is and what game it’s from. Using your knowledge of Mario games and the Super Mario Wiki, figure out where the crook is and go track them down! There are four locations each round: the crime scene (1) at the start, two locations (2 and 3) with clues, and the hideout for the crook of the month (4). Answers for locations will be given with the corresponding round, for example, the clues from the crime scene will lead you to location 2, and once you open the spoiler bubbles for location 2, you will be given the correct answer. You can open the clues for each location in any order you’d like, but be careful! You may encounter an incorrect clue that could throw you off the case!

Clues offered will give you a hint either about the next location or the game it’s in. Unlike a regular Carmen Sandiego game, you do not have to collect information about the crook you are tracking down.

Challenge round (optional):

-Find all locations and games correctly in two minutes or less

-Find all locations and games correctly without using the rest of the Wiki for help

There will be no seat in the theater for Princess Peach!

“Gumshoe, we’ve got a new case for you once again, this time straight from the castle in the Mushroom Kingdom! Princess Peach has reported that someone has stolen her theater tickets! Upcoming is Princess Peach Showtime!, a game that sees our fair princess traveling around to different theaters that have been victims of the dastardly Sour Bunch! But, there will be no game if Princess Peach isn’t able to get into the theater in the first place! Peach suspects that Carmen is behind this, as those tickets were kept under lock and key and an amateur wouldn’t be able to snatch them. Whether it’s Carmen directly or one of her more trusted cronies, ACME will track them down! We need you to get to work, gumshoe, and find those tickets in a flash before the game crashes before it can even launch!”

Crime Scene

The Crime

Princess Peach’s theater tickets have been snatched. Find them and catch the thief!

CLUE 1

“Yeah, they rode the dolphins to get across. They didn’t seem too happy about it, but hey, you don’t say no to the dolphins ‘round here”

CLUE 2

“They knew the trick and dressed up like Bowser to get in. Bowser don’t slip on the banana peels.”

CLUE 3

“Sure, this game is a birthday party- but you’re going to have to earn those presents.”

Location 2

CORRECT ANSWER

Koopa's Seaside Soiree from Mario Party 4 Koopa's Seaside Soiree

CLUE 1

“Watch out for the electric fences- there’s something funny about them.”

CLUE 2

It seems to be a circus ticket…

CLUE 3

“Interestingly, the main goal of this game is to rescue a castle, instead of a princess. Speaks to the priorities of our protagonist.”

Location 3

CORRECT ANSWER

Wonky Circus from Wario World WonkyCircus.png

CLUE 1

“They managed to climb up and avoid the water, but they’re tired at the top. Hurry, and you can catch them!”

CLUE 2

“Nab some barrels while you’re climbing- you can avoid that jerk fish biting you if you grab the right one!’

CLUE 3

“This game is stingy with extra lives when you’re just starting out, for some reason."

CASE CLOSED

HIDEOUT ANSWER: Slime Climb from Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest Slime Climb

It's time to go to the theater!

“You’ve cracked the case, gumshoe! We followed your trail, and had some agents move in from both sides. Carmen’s agent was at the top, taking a break to catch her breath and clean off all the slime, when we got her, and the ACME crew cuffed her and brought her in for questioning. This one seems to be a newer recruit, as she seems to be talking in custody. We’re taking notes, so you might have a new case sooner than you think. But, we have returned the stolen tickets to their rightful owner, and Princess Peach is thrilled to have them returned. She’s sent ahead a generous reward for you, and we’ve deposited it into your account. Time to return to the station, gumshoe, and file your report for this case. Good work this time, gumshoe, and be ready for your next job!”
