The Tetris ōkoku is a place where the first act of the Super Mario Land 2 manga of the Super Mario series takes place.
It is the kingdom where the Tetris tribe once reigned (about 6,000 years ago), before it became a wasteland filled with Tetriminos and the tribe retreat itself into its temple, where it would remain for years to come to protect the treasure of its former leader, King Tetris, challenging however wanted the treasure for himself to a real-life Tetris challenge by the temple's waterfall. However, the challenge results very difficult to the participants and most of them ended up losing it and turned into slaves to produce more Tetriminos for the next challengers.
Luigi gets to know about the treasure by a piece of paper and goes to attempt the challenge by himself and ended up losing it, falling into the waterfall's basin and losing conciousness. A piece of his paper, floats away in the river and reach Mario and Princess Peach, who recognizes the temple depicted and tell Mario about the fabled treasure of the tribe. The two follow the river looking for the temple, being followed by a Goomba, a Hammer Bro, and a Lakitu. With the help of a baby dino met in the wasteland of the kingdom, which Peach adopts and names Goro-chan, they find the temple, and they barge in with the Koopa Troop trio. The Tetris tribe chieftain, German, welcomes them inside and explains the rule of the challenge, point out also the fate that awaited Luigi after he failed. While Goro-chan retrieves Luigi's backpack, where Mario finds the rest of the piece of paper, learning how to beat the challenge, the Koopa Troop trio attempts the challenge and fail by going over the waterfall, getting sent with the rest of the salves.
Mario and his friends then attempts the challenge and, despite German's tricks to make them fail, they manage to win by using the chieftain as the last Tetrimino to clear the last line of blocks. The waterfall then stops, opening a passage and draining the water basin, and Luigi wakes up and gets back into the game by joining the others. German, turned into a I-Tetrimino, also rises back up and follows them. When the heroes mock him for his new form, he angrily activates a trap, but his new form messes it up and all of them end up in the underground water canal system, getting separated. Mario and German end up in a room where they meet Bowser, disguised as the returning King Tetris, claiming to want back his treasure. German leads the two to the next challenge: a versus match where they'll compete on two separated waterfalls while guiding the Tetrimino from a distance (Mario with a ribbon-whip, King Tetris with a magic wand). Once again, German tries to trick the challenge by helping King Tetris, but his cheating is foiled when Luigi, Peach and Goro-chan end up cutting off King Tetris' waterfall by accident.
After Luigi takes care of the chieftain, Mario is able to win the challenge and a path to the treasure is formed. Furious, Bowser removes his disguise and jumps on the path and run towards the treasure, which is revealed to be a rocket ship, which launches him into space. After that, the heroes leave the temple and return home, wondering if by now Bowser has reached the Moon.
King Tetris' disguise and the Tetris tribe reappear in following stories, but the kingdom gets only a few sparse mentions and allusions.
