The Tetris ōkoku is the location where the first act of the Super Mario Land 2 manga of the Super Mario series takes place. It is a kingdom where the Tetris Ningen once reigned (about 6,000 years ago), before it became a wasteland filled with Tetriminos and the tribe retreated into its temple, where it would remain for years to protect the treasure of its former leader, King Tetris, challenging whoever wanted the treasure for themselves to a real-life Tetris challenge by the temple's waterfall. However, the challenge proved difficult to participants and most of them ended up losing and turned into slaves to produce more Tetriminos for the next challengers.
Luigi finds out about the treasure through a piece of paper and goes to attempt the challenge by himself and ended up losing it, falling into the waterfall's basin and losing consciousness. A piece of his paper floats away in the river and reaches Mario and Princess Peach, who recognizes the temple depicted and tells Mario about the fabled treasure of the tribe. The two follow the river looking for the temple, being followed by a Goomba, Hammer Bro, and Lakitu. With the help of a baby dinosaur they meet in the wasteland of the kingdom, which Peach adopts and names Goro, they find the temple and barge in with the trio. The Tetris chieftain, Germane, welcomes them inside and invites them to participate in the challenge.
