Polterpups are medium-sized ghost dogs that appear in Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon.
History
Luigi's Mansion series
Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon
They are one of the many ghosts living in Evershade Valley, and are normally friendly, but when the Dark Moon shattered, they started causing mischief. There is one main Polterpup character that appears throughout Story Mode. Polterpups as a species only appear in the ScareScraper. In the ScareScraper mode, they are featured in their own mode: Polterpup Mode. In Polterpup Mode, the Luigis must hunt down as many Polterpups as possible by using their Dark-Light Devices to see the footprints. Once a Polterpup has been located, he must be flashed with the Strobulb and vacuumed up. Each Polterpup has 50 HP, but Luigi can find a Big Polterpup, which has 100 HP.
Regular and Big Polterpups in the ScareScraper mode always drop a Gold Bar when captured, even if the Poltergust 5000 is at minimal power. This means that they will drop an additional Gold Bar on top of whatever Power Surge a Luigi uses to drain its health, from two Gold Bars from a Blue Surge up to four from a Red Surge. A Polterpup drops five Gold Bars if it is captured with another ghost from a Red Surge.
Luigi's Mansion (Nintendo 3DS)
Despite not appearing in the original Luigi's Mansion, Polterpup appears in the Nintendo 3DS remake. When Luigi's amiibo is scanned, Polterpup appears when Luigi has lost all of his health by eating the Gold Bone to recover Luigi.
Luigi's Mansion 3
This section is referring to a subject in an upcoming or recently released game. When the game is released, or more information about this subject is found, this section may need major rewriting.
This notice should be removed after a month has passed since the game was first released.
A Polterpup appears in Luigi's Mansion 3, the same Polterpup from the story mode of Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, as Luigi kept it as a pet after the game ended.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
A Polterpup appears as an Advanced-level, support spirit in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
Appearance
Polterpups are shown as white, slightly transparent canine-like ghosts. Polterpups' eyes are white and opaque, which makes them stand out against their transparent bodies. Unlike real dogs, Polterpups lack ears, thus their head is completely rounded. Polterpups wear collars with ID tags on the bottom of them; Polterpups in Scarescraper mode wear blue collars, while the single Polterpup that appears during the Dark Moon Quest sports a red one.
