RE: MP9

Quite a few of the minigame modes, like Endurance Valley, or Mini-Game Coaster have articles. I'm not disagreeing with the fact that these can work better merged than as separate article, I'm just saying there are arguments for having them split, and I think this should be done following a discussion rather than just blindly merging them. So sorry for not getting back to you sooner! I can't say that I'm fully back to editing yet, but I'll check on the name now. Hello, I'm Time Turner. 19:26, 23 October 2018 (EDT)

Oddly enough, the guide doesn't seem to mention the switch at all in the Vim Factory (although incidentally, the block at the end of the tutorial area is called the "Event Block", page 27). If it appears at another point in the game, let me know so I can check that! Hello, I'm Time Turner. 19:57, 23 October 2018 (EDT)

Per MarioWiki:Redirects, If a mainspace article has existed for over a year and is moved for any reason, and unless a new page is created using the old title, then the old page title should remain as a redirect to the new title and protected. Hello, I'm Time Turner. 10:41, 28 October 2018 (EDT)

Some questions

Back in September, I messaged you on the forums about a vandal attack with IPs that shared a range and computer information with you, asking if you knew anything about that. You never responded to that, but the vandal looks to have returned with the recent Green Star edits (not mention attacking my talk page). Five of the IPs in the range share computer information with you, one sharing a direct IP match. Seeing as you're more active on the wiki than you are on the boards, and that you were MIA during the attacks, I'm asking this here. I'd like to know if you've edited from any shared computers, such as those being from school or work? Or if this is a sibling with access to a home computer? This is also a possibility we have to consider: Were you editing anonymously from any of the IPs? Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 17:27, 28 October 2018 (EDT)

Re:T-Rex trampolines

Page 47: "Capture the T-Rex inside the Dinosaur Nest (see Power Moon #12 for location) and carefully step off the far edge of the plateau onto the ledge below. Smash the fossilized rocks on this ledge to uncover a Power Moon. Use the hat trampoline to return to the upper level and grab the Power Moon with the T-Rex."

I know that there's a separate object called the Hat Trampoline, but that's the only reference to any kind of bouncing thing with the T-Rex I can find (and considering the accompanying image for the section is this, it may be relevant). Hello, I'm Time Turner. 00:12, 31 October 2018 (EDT)

Page 203: "Capture a Lava Bubble and swim up the path to find a lava cannon at the top, primed to launch bubble-Mario high up, right into the stew under the patrolling bird boss."
Page 207: "Lava cannons throughout the region can place Lava Bubbles in distant or remote landing spots while offering scenic views along the way."
And so on and so forth. From the look of things, "lava cannon" is used consistently. Hello, I'm Time Turner. 00:01, 1 November 2018 (EDT)

Darker Side: "Duos of moving cog-like platforms line the way up this tower. At several points along the route upward, you have to extend an Uproot’s legs to quickly land on the higher of two moving platforms. This needs to be handled while Burrbo hordes appear on motionless platforms along the way."
I can't find any mention of it anywhere else, and the names here are too generic for an article. Hello, I'm Time Turner. 21:08, 3 November 2018 (EDT)

RE: NSMB2 Coin Rush

Policy states levels get separate articles, so yes. They're actually named "First Course," "Second Course" and "Third Course" in-game ("COURSE 1," "COURSE 2" and "COURSE 3" are their Japanese names) so I'd use those as the titles, with the level pack as the identifiers. RE: Plunger

Nothing other than the generic stuff that led to it getting deleted. Rosalina costume pose in Super Mario Maker Mario JC 22:32, 11 November 2018 (EST)

Objects and items

How I've seen it, and how it's always been organised on the wiki, is that items are mainly collectibles (except in the context of games like Smash where they're organised by what the game refers to as "items") while objects are part of the environment or things that the player can interact with but doesn't actually collect. Objects like Green Shells and Trampolines have always been categorised as such, so I don't understand what you meant in your summary. Rosalina costume pose in Super Mario Maker Mario JC 22:29, 12 November 2018 (EST)

Mario is Missing

You don't have to edit the template each and every time I make a new page. I'd rather make one large edit at the end that includes all of the links, rather that filling up the history with a bunch of small edits. If you don't mind, I'd appreciate it if you'd let me handle this. Hello, I'm Time Turner. 22:31, 12 November 2018 (EST)

Hamma, Bamma, & Flare

(By which I mean, ampersand is objectively correct.) Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 17:49, 20 November 2018 (EST)

I checked a handy text dump and it does indeed say "Hamma, Bamma, and Flare", so our ampersand was actually wrong. But yeah, if it were "Hammer, Bamma, & Flare", then it should be the same style as it was in the source. The move worked out, though the exact reason was maybe not as fine. RE:Mario vs. Donkey Kong ready to be featured once more?

I've been thinking about this. Unfortunately, the article is still held back by the image template in the "Enemies and obstacles" section and the more-media template in the "Media" section. I intend to upload the remaining sprites and the game's soundtrack at some point to get rid of these colored rectangles of terror. I think a table for the reception would be welcome too. Only after these additions are made, the page will be fit to be featured again!

And thank you for your invitation. -- -- KOOPA CON CARNE 12:57, 30 November 2018 (EST)

RE: Stripe Pointer

If it's an unofficial title and the creator forgot the {{conjecture}} template, probably. You should ask on the talk page or someone who owns the games first. Rosalina costume pose in Super Mario Maker Mario JC 19:19, 3 December 2018 (EST)

Boss Bass

Your comment there doesn't work, because Porcupuffer's original behavior was "swim quickly along the surface and don't jump." Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 12:04, 5 December 2018 (EST)

Wow you responded at like the worst time possible, that was right as I was leaving for today's programming final. Which I crashed and burned in. Good day to you. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 18:24, 5 December 2018 (EST)
Feeling better now. Anyways, Ptooie with Stalking Piranha Plant isn't the best example either, as other, unrelated Piranha Plants can walk, and not all Ptooies can walk anyways. The Spikeball is the defining feature with them, and no Ptooies were ever found floating on the surface of water on leaves resembling those of a Jumping Piranha Plant. Additionally, the large red fish in YIDS acts exactly like the one in SMB3, with the only difference being the DS could handle larger sprites than the NES, as well as sprite rotation. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 19:56, 5 December 2018 (EST)
You additionally never responded to LTL's counterargument on there. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 05:49, 9 December 2018 (EST)

"The move is capitalized in the manual"

That's technically true, but check again under "Shell Mario" on NTSC or PAL page 24: "Press left or right on +Control Pad while holding the dash button to perform a shell dash and go crashing into enemies." Then the move is referred to as "shell dashing" and "shell-dashing" in lowercase. Yes, there is one instance of "Shell Dash", but that is as a header - everything else in the manual page indicates that "Shell dash" should be the name of the article. LinkTheLefty (talk) 11:32, 6 December 2018 (EST)

About Switch Panel

It may technically be more recent, but guides are still lower priority than manuals, which are second only to in-game sourcing. Two manuals that came with the game should qualify it as the "most commonly used English name" over the Prima version as well, so I'm not sure about this one. LinkTheLefty (talk) 16:49, 15 December 2018 (EST)

What LinkTheLefty said. You didn't need to bring this up with an admin, MarioWiki:Naming clearly lists instruction manuals as the higher priority source. Rosalina costume pose in Super Mario Maker Mario JC 23:16, 15 December 2018 (EST)
One-off name changes of established subjects happen all the time in guides - it's precisely why, for example, Crowber (from an older Nintendo Power guide) has never been renamed to Crow or Raven (from newer Prima guides). Admittedly, I think Prima got better about it over time, but still, it's safer to err on the side of caution and stick to Nintendo's original version. Blue Lava Bubble

Hey there! I noticed you provided a scan of the blue Lava Bubble artwork from Super Mario 3D World, does it gives it a specific name, or simply Lava Bubble? The talk page is currently deciding wether we change it to Fire Bubble (one of it internal filenames), or leave it as Lava Bubble (blue). X

Given how little information there is for Bowser's Castle X, do you think it'd be better to compile the bosses into a list? Or perhaps group them with their counterparts? Also, given this, they may not exist at all? Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 16:29, 25 January 2019 (EST)

According to this video I found, the bosses aren't actually given a name in game, when matches with the removed edit above. The cutscenes are skipped, but all they are is just Bowser growing. Not sure if there's a menu that says their names, though. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 16:45, 25 January 2019 (EST)

Crazy Kong

You reversed my reversal regarding the cover of Crazy Kong. That picture is from a Commodore 64 bootleg of CK. CK was only licensed for the arcade in Japan which was terminated in January 1982 when Falcon breached the contract. Nintendo retired the CK name as it outlived its purpose which was to make up for the shortfall in Donkey Kong arcade cabinets. All legitimate ports of DK in non-arcade platforms use the DK name. The Commodore 64 bootleg was made by Interceptor Software which directly competed against Atarisoft's officially licensed DK port for the C64; both released in 1983. Another CK bootleg for the C64 was made by Supersoft also in 1983. Atari's official C64 port was far superior to both CK bootlegs which lacked quality control.--Platform (talk) 00:35, 26 January 2019 (EST)

Renaming

I saw earlier that you renamed the file I had uploaded from ".ogg" to ".oga". Though at first I didn't understand the purpose of it, I now do, as I am now unable to insert those with ".ogg" in the Media section of the article about the game Donkey Kong. I would have renamed them myself, but I seem to be unable to, so I was wondering if you could rename the files just like you did earlier with the first one I uploaded. If you have the time, the files that would need to be renamed to ".oga" would be:

  • 25m.ogg
  • Lose a Life DK.ogg
  • Hammer Theme DK.ogg
  • 100m Theme DK.ogg

RE:Battlestation

I do not own the PRIMA guide as the book I was talking about was the SMBE which correctly calls the Dreadnought Galaxy the Dreadnought Galaxy on page 134, which is why I re-added the delete template on the Battlestation Galaxy redirect, as as far as I know Battlestation Galaxy is an unofficial name. Doomhiker (talk)Artwork of a Topmini from Super Mario Galaxy 12:08, 4 March 2019 (EST)

RE: Fruit

"Berry" is from an instruction manual, which is considered just as significant of a primary naming source as the game itself (the game only takes priority if there's an inconsistency between it and its respective manual). I don't like the idea of ditching the "berry" title in favour of a less specific name either, since both the "berry" and "fruit" sources use generic terms ("Yoshi's tongue will dart out and eat berries" and "These fruit thrive in the warm climate here" respectively, with "fruit" being even more generic). Rosalina costume pose in Super Mario Maker Mario JC 07:50, 5 March 2019 (EST)

Never mind, it's late and I didn't notice "fruit" being the recent and recurring name. My suggestion would be to do something about the current Fruit article first. Rosalina costume pose in Super Mario Maker Mario JC 08:02, 5 March 2019 (EST)

Re:Fiery Gobblegut's name

Ack! It's a Zack attack! Turns out it's just "Gobblegut" in both the game and the guide. The Japanese Encyclopedia actually gives this Gobblegut, Fiery Dino Piranha, and a version of King Kaliente that doesn't have a separate article their own color identifier. We should probably make them uniform by either splitting the fierier King Kaliente or merging Fiery Dino Piranha with Dino Piranha and the fiery Gobblegut with Gobblegut... Hey, just letting you know, I'm totally okay with replacing any GBA sprites with SMW sprites in the Super Mario World article! And, I'm planning on replacing the animated enemy gifs with static .pngs as I think multiple of them like say, around the Koopas section starts getting a bit tacky and crowded when every single sprite is animated, unless of course animation is necessary to depict an object like the Boo Buddy Block or the Kamikaze Koopa. No problem. I didn't know about that for a while myself. Scrooge200 (talk) PMCS Mustard Cafe Sign.png 19:27, April 19, 2019 (EDT)

Joe & Mac

Um, that is literally the official parsing of the two as a duo. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 00:46, April 22, 2019 (EDT)

It's their official group name though. That trumps all wiki rules. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 01:06, April 22, 2019 (EDT)
The instruction booklet for their game of origin consistently calls them "Joe & Mac" with a single exception, from what I've seen. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 01:47, April 22, 2019 (EDT)

Junior Clown Car

The vocalization directly stated that, which is just as much confirmation as it would be if it was stated in text form. Doomhiker (talk)Artwork of a Topmini from Super Mario Galaxy 19:38, April 28, 2019 (EDT)

I meant vocalization, my apologies. Doomhiker (talk)Artwork of a Topmini from Super Mario Galaxy 06:13, April 29, 2019 (EDT)
It was Black60Dragon (talk) who noticed this, and there currently isn't any other "angle" to look at this from. LinkTheLefty (talk) 08:21, April 29, 2019 (EDT)
Even then, the confirmation is in-game and is enough: the game directly stated vocally that it is the Junior Clown Car which is just as solid evidence if it was stated in text form. We do not need to wait for SMM2 because, as LTL stated it will be re-added when the game releases and reconfirms what we already know, and, as we already have sufficient evidence, we do not need to wait for the game to use the already official information. Doomhiker (talk)Artwork of a Topmini from Super Mario Galaxy 17:19, April 29, 2019 (EDT)
Firstly, the guidance is from games that are not even Mario games compared to the mainline Super Mario game Super Mario Maker. Second, while there technically is one Bowser and Bowser Jr., you can place up to three in Super Mario Maker, so I do not see how the guidance affects the information we already know. Doomhiker (talk)Artwork of a Topmini from Super Mario Galaxy 15:19, April 30, 2019 (EDT)
On top of that, Bowser Jr.'s Journey shows that to not be entirely true, since one scene has Bowser Jr. repurposing Iggy's (mass-produced?) vehicle into a Junior Clown Car that looks exactly like the original. Besides, I've always had the impression there was only supposed to be one Koopa Clown Car as well. LinkTheLefty (talk) 15:24, April 30, 2019 (EDT)

Bowser's Castle (Yoshi's Safari)

Where did you find the name? Do you have a specific source, or is it conjectural? It is neither named in-game, nor in its manual apparently. --Ski Yoshi FanOfYoshi A Dr. Freezegood 13:26, April 30, 2019 (EDT)

Actually, they're named in the results screens at the end of each level. Like here. Bowser's Castle is the odd one out. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 01:51, May 1, 2019 (EDT)

Mega Rabbit

On the Rabbit page, on the Super Mario 3D World section, it claims that the larger variants are called Mega Rabbits, however, they don't have their own page, and a reference hasn't been cited yet. Could you check the Prima guide if the name appears anywhere? --Ski Yoshi FanOfYoshi A Dr. Freezegood 02:27, May 7, 2019 (EDT)

Additionally, since you own that guide, can you tell me if the Bell Tree is ever mentioned? If it is, could you give me the specific quotes? --Ski Yoshi FanOfYoshi A Dr. Freezegood 02:32, May 9, 2019 (EDT)

Hey...

Please read the comment I made on your proposal. [-]€40 vv@(talk · edits)Hyperluigi.gif 09:55, May 7, 2019 (EDT) [-]€40 vv@(talk · edits)Hyperluigi.gif 09:55, May 7, 2019 (EDT)

Trample Switch

So this is interesting, but: where in the Super Mario 3D World eGuide does it give the name Trample Switches for the square P Switches? Maybe I'm looking in the wrong section or the content differs in some way, but I have a physical copy and it names and pictures the blue round and square switch and orange switch under "P Switch" in Items and Objects on page 18. The description reads: "Step on a P Switch to uncover secret Coins, reveal hidden trails, or move platforms into place. Most P Switch effects are temporary, so make sure you move quickly! Orange P Switches tend to come in pairs or more, and must all be activated at the same time." LinkTheLefty (talk) 16:48, May 15, 2019 (EDT)

When I checked out Super Mario 3D World afterward, I found that the round P Switch is the one that's called "TrampleSwitch" in the game data, with Character Switch being "TrampleSwitchChara", the golden P Switch being "TrampleSwitchGold", the blue square P Switches being "TrampleSwitchRotate" and the elevated/orange square P Switch being "TrampleSwitchTogether". Which ones are pictured in the eGuide version of the description? Given the discrepancy between the print and digital versions, I'm thinking this might just be a mistake by Prima (although the square Super Mario Odyssey version of P Switch is also known as "TrampleSwitch"). King Kaliente

Do you have any plans on making another proposal for King Kaliente, or should we wait until something more significant comes up? We are inconsistent with Fiery Gobblegut, the queen Hisstocrat, Small Fry Guy, and other boss phases. --Ski Yoshi FanOfYoshi A Dr. Freezegood 09:57, May 20, 2019 (EDT)

Or you don't feel it's relevant now, even though there is an inconsistency? --Ski Yoshi FanOfYoshi A Dr. Freezegood 14:03, May 22, 2019 (EDT)
Also, i'm specifically referring to this proposal. --Ski Yoshi FanOfYoshi A Dr. Freezegood 11:53, May 24, 2019 (EDT)
Also, forgot to ask... Will it be on MarioWiki:Proposal, or the talk page itself if you make another proposal? --Ski Yoshi FanOfYoshi A Dr. Freezegood 14:59, June 1, 2019 (EDT)

Re:YCW enemies

All right, I finally got around to it. Apologies for taking a while since looking at a Switch game was a little outside of my comfort zone (also because I didn't realize right away that the game was specifically built in Unreal Engine 4.18, at which point I was able to read /PJ033/Content/Paks/PJ033-Switch.pak). I've already accounted for the names listed as conjectural in the Yoshi's Crafted World article, so let me know if there are any missing and I'll see what I can do. I didn't change the Shy Guys yet because their naming scheme is a little different compared to most other enemies; the Heyho folder is in /Game/Characters but not /Game/Enemy, and their various types usually have a subfolder with a descriptor afterwards (except the basic ones, which also go in their own Heyho folder). For instance, Fly Guy is HeyhoPropeller, Petal Guy is HeyhoFlower, Pirate Guy is HeyhoPirate and Rocket Guy is HeyhoRocket. Fat Guy and Spear Guy are unusual because they are HeyhoDebuho and HeyhoYariho instead of just "Debuho" and "Yariho", respectively. A lot of them also seem to use the basic Shy Guy's model. With that in mind, here are the internal names for the new varieties of Shy Guy:

  • HeyhoArmour
  • HeyhoBalloon
  • HeyhoBalloonPoint
  • HeyhoBazooka (Bazooka Guy)
  • HeyhoCircus (Juggling Guy)
  • HeyhoCoinBag
  • HeyhoDonguri (Acorn Guy)
  • HeyhoFly (Glider Guy)
  • HeyhoFootprint
  • HeyhoNinja (Ninja Guy)
  • HeyhoParachute
  • HeyhoPilot (Pilot Guy)
  • HeyhoPlane (Pilot Guy's plane)
  • HeyhoRush (Knife Guy) has two variants mentioned in the Materials, Meshes and Textures subfolders (a "NinjaSword" and "SpaceSword" that the article says is used by Alien Guys)
  • HeyhoShuriken (Ninja Guy's shuriken)
  • HeyhoSkall (Skull Guy)
  • HeyhoSolarCar
  • HeyhoSpace (Alien Guy)
  • HeyhoStick
  • HeyhoTrain
  • HeyhoUnicycle (Unicycle Guy) is similar to the internal name of the Unicycle Shy Guys from Paper Mario: Color Splash (as_btl_zako_boss_heiho_unicycle.bin.lz)
  • HeyhoVampire (Vampire Guy)
  • HeyhoZombie (Zombie Guy)
  • LWHeyho
  • Zombig Guy is referenced within HeyhoDebuho subfolders, namely Animations (Debuho_Zombie_Idle.uasset, Debuho_Zombie_Run.uasset, Debuho_Zombie_Walk.uasset), Materials (M_HeyhoDebuho_Zombie.uasset), and Textures (T_HeyhoDebuho_D.uasset, T_HeyhoDebuho_Zombie.S.uasset; the model within Meshes is presumably shared and simply called Debuho.uasset)

We would normally reverse the words where it would make logical sense because files tend to be named that way for alphabetizing purposes. Also, another thing I should mention: in the Enemy folder, there is something called PetitPackun. "PetitPackun" happens to be the internal filename for a basic Piranha Plant in Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2, but in Yoshi's Crafted World, it is separate from PackunFlower (and BungeePackun) and has its own projectile data in an Enemy subfolder called PetitPackunSeed. Any idea what this may be? LinkTheLefty (talk) 19:00, June 24, 2019 (EDT)

Nevermind, I see now that they are Nipper Plant and Nipper Spore, which weren't mentioned in the article. LinkTheLefty (talk) 22:04, June 24, 2019 (EDT)

Re:"Killer Clown"

It isn't in my dictionary, but if you're sure about that then go ahead and add it. LinkTheLefty (talk) 19:00, June 24, 2019 (EDT)
