The 'Shroom:Issue 124/Fun Stuff
Staff Notes
I am proud to announce that Lord Bowser (talk) will be Fun Stuff’s next Director.
My experiences with LB has been nothing but positive. Here on the ‘Shroom, his submissions are always on time and of excellent quality. Over at the Poll Committee, he’s one of our most active and valuable members. I am confident that these qualities will be reflected when LB takes the wheel starting next month.
By becoming both Poll Committee Chairperson and Fun Stuff Director, both effective this month, Lord Bowser is the third consecutive Director to have held both positions simultaneously, after Palkia47 (talk) and I. I’m reminded of the free time that I had during the peak of my productivity. While I unfortunately no longer have the luxury of available time anymore, trust me when I say leading both the Poll Committee and Fun Stuff is the best any member can want – such leadership is a creative user’s dream. Lord Bowser, I’m sure you’ll have a blast!
I am honored to have lead this section of the ‘Shroom for a year and a half. Retiring from ‘Shroom and Poll Committee leadership on a single day feels strange. Although I look forward to devoting more time to studying and know both teams will continue forward strongly, I will miss the various teams I have worked with for the last two years.
Find the Differences is absent this issue because Lord Bowser (talk) has been busy this month. Meta Knight (talk) will also be leaving Fun Stuff, concluding his popular and exceptionally drawn series of mazes. Thank you sincerely for continuously making them of such high quality!
That’s all I have to say. Amid new leadership, I enthusiastically look forward to seeing where this section heads to next.
Section of the Month
Thank you all for voting Guess Who! Section of the Month over and over again. It’s a simple section, but all your support has kept me motivated to continuously write it for so long.
Congratulations also to FunkyK38 (talk), whose creative new section Where in the Marioverse is Carmen Sandiego? got Second Place for SOTM. I’m sure it’ll become a popular Fun Stuff staple! Nice job of course to Fun Stuff veterans Yoshi876 (talk) and LudwigVon (talk), who both got 5 votes. Keep up the great work!!

Trivia
By: Marshal Dan Troop (talk)
Well, my friends, it has finally happened. No longer do I serve as the Wiki’s sheriff – instead, I have risen from the ashes like the noble Phoenix and become the 21st president of the United States, Chester Alan Arthur. But enough about that – did you know?
- That Candy Kong is the only Kong from Donkey Kong Country who hasn’t been playable in a video game?
- That there were originally supposed to be 32 levels in Super Mario 64?
- That Super Mario 64 was originally supposed to have Luigi as a playable character, along with a co-op mode?
- That at the end of Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, the exchange rate between Beanbean Coins and Mushroom Coins is 1,010,101,010,101:1?
- That Donkey Kong Jr. Math is the only game released under the NES Educational Series?
- That you can still vote in the Mario Wiki awards polls until July 17th?

Hello everyone, and welcome to this month's maze! I have an announcement: I am resigning from this section. It's been fun making mazes, but I have had trouble finding the time to work on this section due to real life measures, and other factors as well. I'm glad to have worked on it for so long, but that's what's going on. That being said, this month we have a request from Lakituthequick (talk), who suggested to do a Basketball. I'm sure that you'll find a reason for it. Thanks for having fun with all the mazes, and I wish you the best.

Picross
Written by: The Pyro Guy (talk)
This issue is all about the Mario stuff that was announced at E3 in June. It all looks great, so enjoy!
How to play:
- Any program with a fill tool works for this (even Paint); just copy and paste the pictures onto the program and follow these steps.
- Each number on a row or column (called hints) represents a line of filled in squares on that row or column; for example, a row starting with "6" would have a row of six black squares with no white between them.
- There must be at least one blank square between each line of filled in squares.
- Each square is filled with either black or white; you can fill confirmed white squares with gray to help you keep track.
- Starting with the larger numbers is easier.
- Every now and then, I might throw in a revealing hint to assist your progress, like the Pokémon in Pokémon Picross. These hints are shapes or lines that fill in squares on the grid. I didn't add a hint this time; good luck!

Where in the Marioverse is Carmen Sandiego?
HOW TO PLAY
Each issue, you will be given a case to solve and clues to use to help you find the solution! Use your Mario knowledge to crack the case! You will begin each case at the scene of the crime, and you will be given three clues from passerby as to where the next hot spot is and what game it’s from. Using your knowledge of Mario games and the Super Mario Wiki, figure out where the crook is and go track them down! There are four locations each round: the crime scene (1) at the start, two locations (2 and 3) with clues, and the hideout for the crook of the month (4). Answers for locations will be given with the corresponding round, for example, the clues from the crime scene will lead you to location 2, and once you open the spoiler bubbles for location 2, you will be given the correct answer. You can open the clues for each location in any order you’d like, but be careful! You may encounter an incorrect clue that could throw you off the case! Clues offered will give you a hint either about the next location or the game it’s in. Unlike a regular Carmen Sandiego game, you do not have to collect information about the crook you are tracking down. Challenge round (optional): -Find all locations and games correctly in two minutes or less -Find all locations and games correctly without using the rest of the Wiki for help |
"Gumshoe, drop the donut, something terrible has happened! A thief has made off with Princess Peach's entire castle! And I don't mean the deed! The entire pink palace was plucked from the plains of the Mushroom Kingdom! Princess Peach and her subjects are beside themselves with grief. Who would do such a thing as to steal an entire castle? It isn't Bowser this time! We've tracked a lead to one of Carmen's henchmen, the Boo Bandit! It's up to you, gumshoe, to track him down and find out where he put the castle before it's too late! Start your search at the castle grounds, and good luck!"<youtube width="200">s1EIUP8tvbE</youtube>

Guess Who!
Thank you sincerely for supporting Guess Who! over the years.
I’ll always be boggled to why you all love Guess Who so much. Of the 31 times I’ve written this article, you guys have voted it Section of the Month 26 times; it also won the inaugural Staff Section of the Month back in July 2015. To any prospective writers out there, I recommend that you snatch this position quick. For whatever reason, this article is a gold mine.
This issue, of course, will be my last Guess Who!. After more than 200 questions (a hundred of which came from this beauty), I’m going to retire the series to make time for other pursuits. Don’t think that I’ll be gone forever, though! I promise to return every so often to drop off a special section.
For a fitting finale, I’m going this month for multiple themes, organized by difficulty. I’m also going to increase my question count this month from 3 to 12. I hope you all enjoy the extra effort I put into making this month’s issue extra special.
Until next time!
Andymii (talk) 00:39, 16 July 2017 (EDT)
Theme: Multi-Theme Finale!
These questions will deal with characters that everyone – even Mario newcomers – should know.
- Question 1
- Although he lives in his sibling’s shadow, this character has loyally fought alongside his brother against giant turtles for years.
- He’s often seen with his trusty vacuum cleaner, but he’s never used it to clean the floor.
- A giant statue of this character within a fountain appears in Daisy Circuit. What an honor!
- Question 2
- In Super Mario Bros., this character cheats the universe by appearing to have four colors. (NES sprites can only have three colors.)
- This character is generally okay with sitting in hot lava, but every so once in a while, he has a tendency to have his skin burned off so badly that all that remains is a sentient skeleton. How he recovers so quickly is a mystery…
- Someone should stop supplying him with axes because he sure doesn't know how to use them.
- Question 3
- After getting kidnapped hundreds of times, I’m not sure if this character even cares anymore.
- She rules over a land of sentient mushrooms.
- This character is quite the baker! Poor Bowser never got a slice of that cake.
- Question 4
- This character took care of Baby Mario and Baby Luigi when they were growing up away from their parents, and he doesn’t seem to have aged one bit.
- At some point, this character leaps off of the roof of Peach’s Castle and into the waterfall. Presumably in joy.
- By kicking his legs really fast, this character can briefly hover in the air.
The Mario series has a diverse cast of bosses. How much about them do you know?
- Question 5
- This character was one of a few bosses to appear in both Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2.
- He has no eyes, although this makes sense because his head represents a carnivorous flower.
- Attacking his tail triggers a muscle reflex that makes this character smack itself. Seriously, that's how you defeat it.
- Question 6
- Although this character appears to be a minion, he turns out to be the main antagonist. Surprise!
- This character has mastered the ability to jump through the dimensions or simply create his own.
- Although this character has feet, players have never seen this character walk.
- Question 7
- His name literally reinforces how cruel he is.
- Like Bowser in The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!, this character has gone through many aliases, including pirate and mad scientist.
- He has a gun!... but his bullets move slower than a Bullet Bill. Not very threatening.
- Question 8
- This boss probably couldn’t care less about appearing big or threatening, because he is neither.
- He usually does most of his fighting while standing on a yellow ball.
- Need your tires replaced or repaired? This character operates a tire service, as an advertisement says within Mario Kart 8.
These characters never really got the full spotlight, so you’ll have to be a true Mario veteran to guess who they are!
- Question 9
- Perhaps no other character epitomizes being a supporting character like this one. He has been limited exclusively in spin-off games, and was even absent in Mario Kart 7.
- By wearing orange elf-shoes, a unique mustache, and what look to be blue eyeliner, this character seems to have… an interesting fashion sense.
- His eyes can glow, as seen in Mario Tennis on the Nintendo 64.
- Question 10
- This little guy carries so much treasure in the backpack that he can’t even jump.
- His headlamp – which is about the size of his face – can defeat ghosts.
- Once upon a time, in a galaxy far, far away, this guy got himself locked in a treasure chest.
- Question 11
- This cheerful Toad is so passionate about cooking that she made all the food at Princess Peach’s party.
- She won over her late husband’s heart by baking him a most wonderful cake.
- She can't cook without her frying pan, and when Shy Guys stole her frying pan, she became really sad.
- Question 12
- This trusty ally has appeared in the most Donkey Kong games for an Animal Buddy!
- His skills range from carrying a lamp to carrying the Kongs to even telepathically knowing where Puzzle Pieces are.
- Cranky Kong sells this character’s services for 15 Banana Coins in Donkey Kong Country Returns.
BONUS QUESTION: Guess That User!
- This user was my first boss here on the the MarioWiki, lasting for about two months. He, of course, went on to an even more senior position.
- When I became Fun Stuff Director in February 2016, he became my boss again until his retirement in June 2016.
- His leadership is responsible for some of the ‘Shroom’s greatest achievements, including the gem that is Issue 100.

It's Super Mario Bros. (talk), who, as Fun Stuff Director, miraculously accepted my Guess Who! application despite the mediocrity of my submission and the total lack of wiki code. Looking back at my first article and seeing how far this section has come, I’m immensely thankful that SMB was somehow able to see the potential in this section way back in 2014, allowing me to write this popular section for so long. |
SCORING:
- 11-13 correct: You’re a Guess Who legend!
- 8-10 correct: You know your Mario characters very well!
- 5-7 correct: It’s clear you enjoy the Mario series!
- 2-4 correct: Keep on playing Mario games, and you’ll surely improve!
- 0-1 correct: You weren’t trying, were you?
