I <3 Python. My favourite IDE is Geany. I believe Linux Mint is the best beginner-friendly distribution, because it actually cares for its users and makes everything work out of the box for them. Ubuntu is fine, but it aims to be absolutely Linux-and-the-rest-of-the-world-independent and too "online shopping and everything" oriented. Browsers I use are FireFox, Lynx and Midori.
