Mr. Luggs, the Glutton, is a thirty-year-old portrait ghost in Luigi's Mansion and its Nintendo 3DS remake. He spends his afterlife eating food in the Dining Room of Luigi's Mansion. Mr. Luggs has deep purple skin, small yellow eyes, a patch of blue-gray hair, and an extra-wide, slobbery mouth. He wears a dark red sweater around his overweight body, and has a dirty napkin tied around his neck. Mr. Luggs has similarities to Mr Creosote from Monty Python's The Meaning of Life in general, since he is another very obese man who literally ate himself to death. Mr. Luggs in particular prefers buffets over three meals a day.[1]

History

Luigi's Mansion

Mr. Luggs is the first optional portrait ghost of Luigi's Mansion. If Luigi decides to catch Mr. Luggs, he first has to light every candle on the table for Mr. Luggs to become visible;[2] this is doable from the effects of a Fire Elemental Ghost. Mr. Luggs' food has to be vacuumed into his Poltergust 3000.[3] Mr. Luggs cannot have his food supply refilled if both of his Waiters have been vacuumed in. When Mr. Luggs runs out of food, he becomes enraged and attacks by spitting fireballs in Luigi's direction.[4] Mr. Luggs tires out and becomes vulnerable to the Poltergust 3000. If Mr. Luggs is not caught in one go, he recovers and breathes more fireballs, but only five of them this time.[5] Once Mr. Luggs is captured, the lights turn on, revealing a green treasure chest. Later on, in the Gallery, Mr. Luggs' portrait number is 11.

Mr. Luggs in Super Mario-kun

Mr. Luggs appears in volume 29 of Super Mario-kun in the Luigi's Mansion arc and serves as a spoiled man. When Luigi and Toad encounter him, he orders them to give him food. Luigi does and almost gives Toad to him, but does not due to Toad dismaying. Luigi and Toad give Mr. Luggs all the food they have, even Mario's hat, but Mr. Luggs still is not satisfied. Luigi gets annoyed and sucks Mr. Luggs up.

Mario Kart: Double Dash!!

Mr. Luggs' silver frame appears on the walls of the Luigi's Mansion battle course in Mario Kart: Double Dash!!, though not in its reappearance in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

Trivia

  • Gobbers in Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon are similar to Mr. Luggs as they are both significantly overweight and use projectile attacks. Additionally, in the ScareScraper, if a Gobber appears, two Greenies holding food appear alongside it, similar to the two Waiters giving food to Mr. Luggs.
  • If Luigi captures a ghost in the hallway in front of the Dining Room, Mr. Luggs' sound effect can be heard from the other side,[8] if Mr. Luggs has not been caught
