Mario and Yoshi fleeing from a battle in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door.

Flee is an action used in the Mario role playing games. Flee allows the player to attempt to run away from battle, leaving the enemy behind. However, some enemies, or more specifically bosses, cannot be fled from. Mario will lose coins when he flees (except in Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, Paper Mario: Sticker Star, and Mario and Luigi: Dream Team); however, in Paper Mario and Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, he can pick them right back up. Fleeing can be used by enemies too. Some enemies, such as the Crazee Dayzee and the Amazee Dayzee can flee from battle and in Paper Mario, Magikoopas and their colors can flee if they are fought alone. Tubba Blubba's Heart will flee from battle when he has about 5 HP left.

In Super Mario RPG, enemies that flee such as the Rat Funks and the Alley Rats and Shy Aways can run away. Geckos also run from the battle but only with their Fun & Run attack. In Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time, some enemies that give the bros. a lot of coins or EXP, such as Pidgits and Gold Koopeleons, sometimes flee from battle. In Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story, Trashures occasionally flee, and they always flee after Bowser vacuums coins from them.
