Gooper Blooper
Gooper Blooper is a giant Blooper that first appeared as a boss in Super Mario Sunshine, where he appeared in the levels Ricco Harbor and Noki Bay. He uses his tentacles to smack Mario, draining the plumber's health points.
Biography
The Battles of Ricco Harbour and Noki Bay
Gooper Blooper makes his debut in Super Mario Sunshine. The ill-fated Blooper was one of the monsters chosen by Bowser Jr. to help him frame Mario. Under Jr.'s command, Gooper Blooper takes over the market area of Ricco Harbor. Mario however comes to stop the monster. While hiding under a mountain of crates, Gooper Blooper leaves one of his tentacles sticking out, and not knowing what it is - Mario pulls on the tentacle and breaks it off of Gooper Blooper's body. Enraged,
Gooper Blooper attacks using his tentacles but despite his tries to kill Mario, each one of his tentacles meet the same fate as the first. Mario also pulls the cork out of Gooper Blooper's mouth, causing ink to spray all over Gooper Blooper and the surrounding area. After the cork is gone, Mario can pull Gooper Blooper's mouth, then letting it go to snap back into his face like elastic, causing severe harm to the boss. After his mouth is pulled twice, Gooper Blooper is beaten and he blasts off into the sky, then lands in the sea, leaving a goopy mess. However, Gooper Blooper survives and is fought the same way with re-grown tentacles in Noki Bay on the peak of the mountain, and once again in Ricco Harbor, this time on the helicopter pad.
Tennis Blooper
Gooper Blooper reappeared in Mario Power Tennis where he was the opponent in the mini-game Gooper Blooper Volley. All four of his tentacles wield a tennis racket.
The Battle of Wavy Beach
Gooper Blooper appeared again in Super Princess Peach as the fifth Boss in the game and is defeated by whacking his tentacles and mouth with Perry. After he lost three health points, he used the Calm vibe to fall asleep and regain health. Peach woke him up with the Rage vibe and took out his remaining two health points.
The Pirate Ship
In Mario Hoops 3 on 3, Gooper Blooper appears in the court called Pirate Ship. His job is much like the mythical monster, the Kraken, surround the ship in a menacing way and attack all passengers of the boat. Gooper Blooper smacks the player with his tentacles if the player got too close to the edge.
Baseball Blooper
Gooper Blooper appears again in Mario Super Sluggers as a hazard in the mini-game Blooper Baserun where the players must dodge his tentacles and collect coins. He also appears around the Daisy Cruiser stadium at night, and grabs the ship and tilts it to its side. He seems to be bigger in this game than in the previous ones.
Personality
Very little is revealed about Gooper Blooper's personality. He suddenly showed up in the Marioverse and has become a recurring character since. However, it can be inferred, that Gooper Blooper is not necessarily an evil character, but is driven by a grudge against Mario for the pain he caused him during their first encounter.
Abilities
Gooper Blooper can use all his tentacles to his advantage, whether it be slamming them all down on Mario at once or just slamming one down. Gooper Blooper will also twirl around swinging his tentacles hurting anyone who gets in their path. Gooper Blooper is also very strong as he can tilt the entire Daisy Cruiser to one side. Like all Bloopers, Gooper Blooper can spit out ink to cause a slippery mess. He can also jump very high which is shown in "Gooper Blooper Breaks Out". However, Gooper Blooper has never shown the ability to speak or walk on land.
Trivia
- In the beta version of Super Mario Sunshine, Gooper Blooper was dark blue in color. Gooper Blooper was later changed to his current coloration for unknown reasons, maybe to make him look more like a Blooper; his strange blue color could also have been generated by technical difficulties.
- In Super Mario Sunshine Gooper Blooper was the only boss who appeared in three episodes, two in Ricco Harbor and one in Noki Bay making it the third most recurring boss, beaten by the five appearances of Piranha Plants in generators and the eleven of Shadow Mario.
