Is this really distinct enough to be its own article, especially since it's only named a "Portable DK Barrel" in the manual? The article seems very padded out when in fact it's only a DK Barrel that can be kept in your inventory like many items in the Super Mario series. The old trailers for DKCR3D used "Portable DK Barrel", I'm certain. There is one key difference: Portable DK Barrels cannot be held (like, in DK's arm) like the real deal can be. There's also the fact that you can break game design with it. Super Mushrooms from the player's inventory can't do that. (Counterpoint, of course, being it's pal Super Green Watermelon, though I contest that one on the basis we should split its successor "All-you-can-eat watermelon!") I'm not sure what you're referring to by break game design, but same can be said for an inventory Mega Mushroom being used to "cheat" in levels and bosses in NSMB DS. These still aren't really enough to justify the item itself being different enough from the regular DK Barrel for it to get a separate article in my opinion. I think this should be merged into DK Barrel. Super Mario RPG (talk) 09:12, January 25, 2025 (EST)
Oh. Totally forgot you are allowed to carry Mega Mushrooms. That kind of sinks the "break game design" case. (The idea was that sometimes the player has to carry a Barrel to throw at something, with the caveat that taking damage makes DK drop objects. Cannon Cluster Puzzle Piece 7 I believe is a case. The Portable DK Barrel is the cheesy alternative, as you can reach the destination then throw it with no carrying and evading enemies required.) I guess I have to stand on "can't be carried" and "some of the technicalities on when you cannot grab would be weird to have on an actual grab page but are relevant here". As in, it really doesn't matter that DK isn't allowed to grab while being shot out of a Barrel Cannon, because there's nothing to grab after being shot out but before landing. But with regard to the Portable DK Barrel, this normally inconsequential restriction means you can't use a Portable DK Barrel while being shot out of a cannon to refill health. Actually, considering Rare Orb is "Orb" in the shop, I think there's a third argument that the name "Portable DK Barrel" is being truncated in menus for some reason. Salmancer (talk) 18:35, February 2, 2025 (EST)

I'd support a merge. This isn't that much different from using a Power-Up from the inventory in Super Mario Bros. 3, New Super Mario Bros. Wii or New Super Mario Bros. U. ArendLogoTransparent.pngrend (talk) (edits) 14:08, February 23, 2025 (EST)
