Okay, this doesn't even mention it origionated in Super Mario Bros., which is important. Why isn't that mentioned?M&L Just because you're in red doesn't mean you're strong. Have at you! 19:48, 5 February 2012 (EST)

Split "Bowser's Flame" from Fire Breath

The way I see it, there are two subjects on this page. "Fire Breath" refers to when Bowser makes a constant long jet of fire (which generally peters out after a while), while "Bowser's Flame" refers to the small individual fireballs that he (or similar Koopas, such as the Koopalings, Bowser statues, or Bowser Jr.) are shown breathing as projectile attacks, or occasionally as a standalone obstacle. They often coexist in the same game, where they are treated as two separate attacks. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 01:43, May 17, 2024 (EDT)

Shouldn't we refer to Bowser's attacks in the first game as Bowser's fireballs instead of Koopa's breath given that the former is from a more recent source? PrincessPeachFan (talk) 07:10, June 13, 2024 (EDT)

See the similarly titled section above. These are two distinct entities; one is a projectile obstacle, the other is an attack. They sometimes appear alongside each other, but are always distinct and usually have different graphics, and there's never any in-between or third variation. "Bowser's Flame" refers to the (generally small) individual fireballs that he spits out that might go sideways or downwards, while "Fire Breath" refers to the long continuous forward or upward jets and is more attributable to the action itself rather than what it creates. This goes for other Koopas of his species as well, like when Ludwig or Jr. use either, as well as Bowser Statues or Mechakoopas since they're Bowser-based (meanwhile Fire Bros. are not, so they don't count). For example, in regards to the Super Mario platforming series cut off at 2010 for brevity:

  • "Bowser's Flame" appears in SMB1, SMBLL, SMB3, SMW, NSMB, NSMBW, etc
  • "Fire Breath" appears in Sunshine
  • Both appear in SM64 and SMG

Where does Mario and Luigi: Dream Team's Bowser & Antasma boss fight land? One attack looks like a continuous stream of individual fires. (There's an image uploaded but it's only showing the early part of the attack. When the fire swings outward it's clearly segmented. That's fire breath, it being segmented is a graphical limitation almost all depictions have, they just usually don't swerve so quickly in a manner that makes it so blatant. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 22:27, September 4, 2024 (EDT)
