- “So what if we have wee Luigi at Bowser's Castle?! We'll never ever hand him over!”
- —Kamek, Yoshi's New Island
Fort Bucket Booby Trap is the fourth level of World 1 in Yoshi's New Island and the first fort level in the game. This level's playable Yoshi is the yellow Yoshi, and introduces buckets that can be hit with an egg to release an object, most often a coin. The "booby traps" of this level consist of large hammers in the background that swing towards the screen, flinging the yellow Yoshi into it and causing him/her to lose a life instantly. If the yellow Yoshi touches the sides of the hammer as it swings, he/she will only drop Baby Mario off his/her back. While hammers appear in the first section of the level, the second section includes Red Blarggs and Spinners, returning from previous Yoshi's Island games.
When the Golden Flutter Wings are used in this level, the hammers do not try to hit the yellow Yoshi. They still swing at him/her when he/she uses the regular Flutter Wings, however.
Overview
- “Hey there, li'l Yoshi! That baby is mine, so be a darling and HAND HIM OVER!!”
- —Kamek, Yoshi's New Island
Yellow Yoshi starts in an area with an Egg Block and a bucket, followed by swinging hammers and pits of lava. Enemies such as Shy Guys and Lava Drops are interspersed between these obstacles. A Whirly Gate will turn Yellow Yoshi into a Hot-Air Balloon, after which he has to navigate a vertical tunnel filled with coins and Fly Guys. At the end, he is warped back to his normal form and transported into an area with a Checkpoint Ring.
Ahead are an Egg Plant and a series of bridges over lava, where Red Blarggs lunge at Yellow Yoshi. These are followed by several Spinners and, at the end, another Egg Plant and a golden bucket that drops a Spring Ball when hit with an egg. The Spring Ball helps Yellow Yoshi jump over a ledge where the boss door is located.
Past the door, the Yoshi engages in a battle with Kamek. In this room, there are three golden buckets aligned high above the ground which drop missiles when hit. Kamek, who stands on a platform of ! Blocks, attacks by shooting magic at one of the golden buckets to release a missile (or targets Yellow Yoshi directly if he stands underneath him), following with two spells that create Shy Guys before teleporting to another spot, always under a golden bucket. Yellow Yoshi must hit a bucket and release a missile onto Kamek to inflict damage on him. After the first and second hits, Kamek will fly on a broom past the buckets, causing them to drop missiles onto the floor. After enduring three hits, Kamek is defeated.
Smiley Flowers
Smiley Flower 1: Yellow Yoshi must hit a bucket shortly after the second giant hammer to release a Spring Ball, which can bounce him up to an area containing the first Smiley Flower.
Smiley Flower 3: Located in the Hot-Air Balloon Yoshi course, inside a ring of rotating coins past the second clock.
Smiley Flower 4: In a hidden Winged Cloud above a pit just after the Lava Drop in the area with Red Blarggs.
Smiley Flower 5: In a bonus area accessed via a pipe in the ceiling between the first two Spinners. Initially unseen, the pipe's position is signaled by two stone blocks underneath it. Above the blocks is a hidden Winged Cloud that, when revealed, can be hit to release a Spring Ball that bounces the Yoshi to the pipe. The Smiley Flower is then found in yet another hidden Winged Cloud on the right side of the bonus room.
