Clubba
Clubbas are mace-wielding turtles that appear in the Paper Mario series. They as a generic enemy only appear in Paper Mario and Super Paper Mario; however, a wrestling Clubba named Grubba appears in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. Clubbas are characterized by their wild hair, their laid-back attitude, and their diet, which consists of Boos, making them the only known predators of the ghosts. Clubbas tend to have unstable allegiances; the generic Clubbas in Paper Mario were ruled over by Tubba Blubba, and therefore also served Bowser. Grubba served nobody but himself, and was the promotional manager of the Glitz Pit. The Clubbas in Super Paper Mario had no visible allegiance whatsoever, though it may be assumed they were guards for the Floro Sapiens.
Description
Clubbas look like large, burly, green Koopas with a small shell and hair. Clubbas are usually used as guards, but always seem to slack off on the job. Clubbas are very strong and use a mace as a weapon. They hang about Tubba Blubba's Castle in Paper Mario, and the Gap of Crag in Super Paper Mario.
Sub-Species
- White Clubba: Clubbas found in Shiver Mountain and the Crystal Palace.
- Dark Clubba: Powerful Clubba variant that appears solely in Super Paper Mario.
- Blue Clubba: Though never officially named, blue Clubbas tend to have a leading role among Clubbas, and may grow to gigantic sizes. Blue Clubbas appear only as bosses (though in his macho form, Grubba was orange; this may just have been due to the absorbed power, however).
Possible Relatives
Clubbas bear heavy resemblance to three enemies from earlier games that never reappeared. These include Spikes from Super Mario Bros. 3 (almost an identical resemblance) and Gabons and Don Bongo from Yoshi's Story. Though Don Bongo may be ruled out due to being made of rubber, Gabons and especially Spikes may be related, if not a sub-species.
