Not to be confused with Small Mario.

Template:Form-infobox Mini Mario is a form that Mario takes upon eating a Mini Mushroom. Occasionally, this transformation may also be brought about by using a Poison Mushroom, or other various items. In New Super Mario Bros. Wii, the two Toads (Blue and Yellow) are capable of becoming mini versions of themselves as well. This transformation is similar to Wario's Tiny Form.

History

Mario Party series

Several minigames throughout the Mario Party series feature Mario and company shrunk to a small size. In fact, the plot of Mario Party DS revolves around the playable characters being shrunk. In one minigame, for instance, in Crate and Peril, three characters are sucked and shrunk into a box while the solo player attempts to eliminate them by tilting the box and sliding Spiny Shells.

Mario Party 4 debuts the Mini Mushroom, and is thus the introduction of Mini Mario as a power-up form. While in his or her mini form, the player can only roll a 1-5. There is also another item that can transform the player into their mini form: the Super Mini Mushroom, which allows the player to roll two 1-5 dice blocks. Players who shrink themselves can also enter Gates and play Mini Mini-Games or land on certain spaces.

Mario & Luigi series

In Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, Mini-Mario is a Bros. Action taught to Luigi in Chateau de Chucklehuck. It involves Luigi standing behind Mario and hitting him with a hammer. Mario then shrinks to about half of his normal size, allowing him to fit through gaps normally inaccessible. In addition, when Mario is in Beanbean Castle Town, a small exclamation mark will appear over his head whenever he draws near an area of ground where a Beanstone is located. If the game is being played on the Game Boy Player, the controller will react. A larger exclamation mark appears if Mario is directly above a Beanstone. In order for him to be restored to his normal size, Mario must either be hit by Luigi's hammer or enter battle. If Luigi attempts to High Jump onto Mini-Mario, and if Mario jumps when Luigi is directly above him, he earns a coin every time Luigi is hit. However, every time Luigi is hit, he loses 1 HP; if his HP is at 1 when Mario jumps on him, nothing happens.

In Mario & Luigi Partners in Time, Baby Mario and Baby Luigi are small enough to go through holes the Mario brothers cannot fit in, which are about the same size as the ones Mini-Mario can go through.

In Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story, once Mario and Luigi obtain the hammers, Luigi can hammer Mario to shrink him down to a small size just like in Superstar Saga. This ability is used for the same reasons as in the previous game.

In Mario & Luigi: Dream Team, the transformation is called Small Mario, not to be confused with the transformation of the same name. Mario becomes Small Mario if Luigi hammers Mario on a hard surface.

Mario Pinball Land

In Mario Pinball Land, Mario can buy a Mini Mushroom for ten coins. While mini, Mario can get into entrances like beehives and igloos that are normally too small for him to earn more Power Stars.

Super Mario series

New Super Mario Bros.

In New Super Mario Bros., Mario once again becomes Mini Mario by eating a Mini Mushroom. While in this form, the player can jump higher, run on water, jump on enemies without stomping them, and also fit through tiny Warp Pipes. Additionally, enemies that Mario can defeat with a stomp at regular height take a Ground Pound to defeat while he is Mini Mario. If Mario is hit by an enemy when in this form, instead of reverting back to regular-sized Mario, he loses a life. In this game, Mini Mario cannot duck, which may be a reference to Super Mario Bros. and Super Mario Bros. 3, where Small Mario could not duck. Mini Mario also cannot grab and hold anything in this game.

New Super Mario Bros. Wii

The mini form also appears in New Super Mario Bros. Wii, retaining the effects from the previous game, except for the inability to pick up objects. In this game, Mario gets a higher-pitched voice while being Mini Mario. He also gains the ability to duck.

New Super Mario Bros. 2

The mini form also appears in New Super Mario Bros. 2, along with the Mini Mushroom, having the same effects from the previous games.

New Super Mario Bros. U

The mini form also appear in New Super Mario Bros. U. It has the same effects from the previous games. However, the form now has the ability to run up and down walls similar to a Triangular Block, as well as being able to carry items.

Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games

In the DS version of Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games, Mini Mushrooms appear in Polastraits, Icepeak, and Blizland. As Mini Mario, Mario is able to cross thin ice, as well as narrow spaces. While Mario can become Mini Mario, Sonic the Hedgehog cannot.

Mario Sports Mix

In Mario Sports Mix, Mini Mushrooms reappear as items. While mini, the player is not able to carry a basketball, hockey puck, or dodgeball. They also have the inability to spike in volleyball, or perform a defensive maneuver in dodgeball.
