Winged Yoshi is the trademark power-up form of the Yoshis, first debut in Super Mario World. In this form, Yoshi gains wings and the power of flight.

In Super Mario World, this form could be accessed in one of two ways: by utilizing the Blue Koopa Troopa Shell power, or by grabbing Yoshi's Wings. The latter would incidentally turn any color Yoshi into a Blue Yoshi after finishing the current stage. Winged Yoshis also made appearances in several early Yoshi puzzle games, such as Yoshi for the NES and Game Boy systems.

In the Super Mario World cartoon episodes "Ghosts 'R' Us" and "The Night Before Cave Christmas," Yoshi, after gaining a pair of Magic Wings, transformed into Winged Yoshi.

In Super Mario Adventures, Yoshi, after eating a Koopa Troopa wearing a Blue Shell, becomes Winged Yoshi, which allows him to fly, with Mario and Luigi on his back. Yoshi accidentally spat out this Blue Shell later though, causing him to lose his Winged Yoshi form.

After a prolonged absence from the series, Winged Yoshi returns in the multiplayer mode of Super Mario 64 DS as Yoshi's answer to the other characters' Wing Cap powers. The Winged Yoshi form recently made a comeback in Mario Strikers Charged, where Yoshi briefly gains it while using his Mega Strike. In Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Yoshi, after using a Smash Ball to utilize his Super Dragon Final Smash, will become a Winged Yoshi, capable of breathing fire. Template:BoxTop
