Brown Yoshis are a sub-species of Yoshi. They're playable on every world's 6th level in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island.

They also made a cameo appearance in Yoshi's Story, which is almost always missed. When the "press start" screen is left alone for a couple of seconds, the story for the game will be told and while showing all the Yoshis on the island, one of them is a brown Yoshi. It is unknown why he wasn't included in the game, it's possible he could've been in the game at one point but was taken out for a bunch of reasons, unpopularity, time contraints, and it would've made the game even more easier if the player was given another life, though it is unknown why he couldn't have been unlocked like the Purple Yoshi, who also appeared with all the Yoshis in the cutscene.

In Yoshi's Island DS Orange Yoshi from Super Mario Sunshine takes the place of Brown Yoshi in the 6th level of each world.

Appearance

In Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, Brown Yoshi debuted with brown skin and orange shoes with an orange saddle. However in the Gameboy Advance remake, Brown Yoshi wore bright orange shoes, possibly foreshadowing his replacement, the Orange Yoshi in games to come.

In Brown Yoshi's artwork, he wore a darker shade of brown for shoes.
