Brown Yoshis are a variety of Yoshi found only in a select few games.

History

Yoshi series

Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island

Brown Yoshi first appeared in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island where he was playable in the sixth level of each world. He was also in its remake, Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3. However, in Yoshi's Island DS, he was replaced by Orange Yoshi, making him the only color from the original game not to appear in the sequel.

Yoshi's Story

The Brown and Purple Yoshis in their Yoshi's Story cameo appearance.

One Brown Yoshi cameoed in the introduction of the game Yoshi's Story. He wore green shoes, although are somewhat hard to see in the grass. Like Purple Yoshi, Brown Yoshi was originally intended to be a playable character, but was dropped from the roster; nevertheless, there are long-standing false rumours that the Brown Yoshi exists as an unlockable character.

Yoshi Touch & Go

In Yoshi Touch & Go, a Brown Yoshi can appear if the current Yoshi reaches 10,000 yards in Marathon mode. It can hold up to 50 eggs.

A single Brown Yoshi made an appearance in Paper Mario where he was shown to be friends with the Yoshi Elder.

Appearance

In the original game, Brown Yoshi has a red saddle and red shoes. In the remake, Brown Yoshi wore a red saddle again, but instead of red shoes, he wore darker brown shoes.

Due to the absence of Brown Yoshis in recent games, and with the prevalence of Orange Yoshis instead, many consider Brown Yoshi and Orange Yoshi to be one and the same.
