The not so peaceful town of Onett.

Onett is a stage in Super Smash Bros. Melee. It is originally Ness's hometown and starting point in the game Earthbound located in Eagleland; like the Pokémon games, Ness could stop by at his house and see his mother here. It is a default stage in Melee, and is the home stage to Ness. As such, all 1-P mode battles involving Ness are fought either here or Fourside. This includes Classic, Adventure and All-Star. There are a few features here, the most deadly being the cars on the bottom of the stage, that will ram into the players if they don't get out of the way in time. There are a couple of trees above the left house, which the player could jump on to escape his foes. Pikachu's Thunder will even be blocked. There is also a three-story medication store with a billboard on the top that will fall if a heavy character gets on top of it. Interestingly, when a player throws a bomb at a car or gets hit by it, the car will spin out of control.

In Adventure Mode, Onett stars as Stage 9. In this, the player has to battle three Nesses at once. After beating them, the player will proceed to Stage 10: Icicle Mountain. The Onett stage reappears in Super Smash Bros. Brawl as a Past Stage.

In Melee, Onett has an alternate track called Mother 2 (the Japanese name of EarthBound). It is the overworld solo music from the original Mother, and it also resurfaces in EarthBound as the music for Ness's house after Ness receives the Sound Stone near the beginning of the game.

Trivia

  • Its name is from the fact that it is the first town that Ness visits in Earthbound, thus Onett. All the other towns get their name from the order Ness visits them; they are Twoson, Threed, and Fourside.
  • If the player pauses and zooms out, he/she will see a baseball diamond. However, this does not affect gameplay.
  • Zooming in on the background after pausing, the player can see many things including the crane from the Dusty Dunes Desert.
