There are several junctions in the course, but all paths lead to the same place. The course starts out on a straightaway which almost immediately splits into two intersecting paths. The straight path is longer, but the right path, leading into the center of the city, has many cars that could spin or possibly flip the player in the case of the [[Wiggler Train]] and the [[Bob-omb Car]]. Either path leads to a single path with a small turn. If players look off into the distance, [[Mushroom Bridge]] can be seen. After the turn, the right half of the track becomes nonexistent; falling results in [[Lakitu]]'s rescue. Continuing on this path for a while, the course repeats.

After the road merges, the player will see a set of item boxes and a small twist in the road. After the straight section of the cars running straight to the player is a curve to the left and the finish line, which starts the track again.

The only hazards present in Mushroom City is the cars, [[Wiggler Train]]s and [[Bob-omb Car]]s, all which they hinder the player in contact. Mushroom City is a heavily populated city in the Mushroom Kingdom, and a racecourse in the Star Cup of Double Dash!!. There are several junctions in the course, but all paths lead to the same place. The course takes place at night, unlike its counterpart, Mushroom Bridge which takes place in the day. Mushroom City has yet to make a reappearance in the later Mario Kart games.

Mushroom City can be seen in the background below when racing in Rainbow Road in the game (if the player is playing in a split-screen mode, the city will not appear below the course).

Course Layout

The course starts just at the end of a highway. It is a very straight road with some lights illuminating the path. After the slightly long road with the first set of item boxes is a smooth U-turn curve to the right, which will leads into the road that goes into the beginning parts of the city. The path splits into two that will remain such until later on in the track. The player may choose to go straight ahead and stay on the path or turn left into an area below the overhang of the highway area. In the former path, the road is straight until there is a 90 degree turn right. The path meets the other path at an intersection, but continues ahead. In the latter path, the path that makes a 90 degree right turn leads to a small straight road, that curves again 90 degree to the right and into the intersection of the other road.

At the intersection, the player may choose to remain on the same road or to switch paths. The player has to make sure he/she doesn't turn left if he/she takes the path underneath the overhang; doing so will cause the player to go backwards in the track. Directly at the intersection is always a Double Item Box.

If the player keeps on the path that goes straight and not under the overhang and crosses the intersection, keeping in the same road, he/she will continue moving along straight until a 90 degree turn to the left, which leads to a long, straight road that will meet with the other road. If the player takes the other path past the intersection, he/she will continue straight until he/she makes a 90 degree right turn into the area where the road meets again and a 90 degree turn left, where the road completely merges.

After the road merges, the player will see a set of item boxes and a small twist in the road. After the small twist is a smooth curve to the left, which leads into the straight section of the road, up hill, with a row of item boxes. After the row of item boxes is where the road curve to the left, where there are approaching cars. On the right section is a hole that leads into the lower section of the city, where the player has previously been. Falling into the hole results in Lakitu's rescue. On the road, the player has to avoid approaching cars, buses, and the occasional Bob-omb Car which will explode the player. After the straight section of the cars running straight to the player is a curve to the left and the finish line, which starts the track again.

The only hazards present in Mushroom City is the cars, Wiggler Trains and Bob-omb Cars, all which they hinder the player in contact. Mushroom Cars are also present in the city, providing players with Mushrooms flying out if the player manages to hit them. Bumping into a Mushroom Car will not make the player spin out.

Shortcuts

There is a shortcut located at the junction. If one takes the straight path, but stays on the right hand side, a short, pink, twisty alley will come with an Item Box placed there. This leads straight to the turn ahead, just before the intersection of the roads under the overhang of the highway above.

Another shortcut allows the player to skip the highway part, but requires a Mushroom to do so. On the very right of the hole, the player can see a very narrow road in between the wall and the hole. The narrow road has dirt in it to slow the player down, this is why a Mushroom is needed to cross it without losing any time.

Trivia

  • There are several businesses in the city such as Pianta Fruits, Wario Pharmacy, and Koopa Shop.
  • Unlike Toad's Turnpike, the cars will not change direction in Mirror Mode; they'll continue to follow their set path.
