Template:SSB Infobox Squirtle (Japanese ゼニガメ Zenigame, German Schiggy, French Carapuce) is a water-type Pokémon, and a starter in Pokémon Red & Blue Version. In Super Smash Bros. Melee, Squirtle is the first Pokémon to appear on the Poké Floats stage, and has a Trophy.
He is a playable character in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. However, he takes commands from the Pokémon Trainer, who is the real mastermind behind Squirtle's actions. The other two Pokémon used by Pokémon Trainer are Ivysaur and Charizard. When the Pokémon Trainer uses Pokémon Change, he returns Squirtle, and sends out Ivysaur next. It is likely that Squirtle is the lightest of the group.
Like all Pokémon of the Pokémon Trainer, Squirtle shares the damage meter with the other Pokémon, and has a special stat, the stamina. It is there to regulate the Pokémon changes. When the player changes Pokémon rarely or too often, the stamina of the Pokémon runs low. Squirtle has a technique, where upon jumping at a wall, he sticks to it. From there, the player can input any attack command or jump, to get off the wall.
In the Subspace Emissary, the Pokémon Trainer starts out with only Squirtle. Eventually, he earns Ivysaur and Charizard.
Special Moveset in Super Smash Bros. Brawl
Water Gun
Water Gun is a move used by Squirtle in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. It is his Standard Special Move, and is made to match the effects of Water Gun in the Pokémon series. He simply shoots water out of his mouth, doing no damage, but pushing people backwards, like F.L.U.D.D.. Kirby can use Water Gun when he absorbs Squirtle's powers.
Withdraw
Withdraw is Squirtle's side special move, and can be used to travel a long distance. When used, Squirtle will withdraw his body into his shell, and slide towards the other players at great speed. It is possible that the move launches other players into the air when hit, which is common for attacks like this. It is based on the attack in the Pokémon series, Withdraw, which is a defensive move that raises the user's defense 1 stage, but does not damage or affect the opponent's Pokémon.
Waterfall
Waterfall is Squirtle's Up special move, which can be used in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. When Squirtle uses this attack, he runs diagonally up a small waterfall which appears out of nowhere, and rides it (this can be used as a third jump). He can damage opponents as he rides the waterfall upward. It is based on the move Waterfall from Pokémon, where the Pokémon using this move is allowed to move up a waterfall even outside of battles.
Pokemon Change
When switching out Squirtle, Ivysaur is summoned to battle.
Hydro Pump
Squirtle's role in Triple Finish is to use Hydro Pump. Squirtle shoots this in all directions in the way he is facing. It doesn't have that much power, but it does help with racking up damage and juggling.

Retreating into its shell and spitting water at its foes is Squirtle's trademark response to danger. It's one of the three Pokémon that trainers can receive from Professor Oak in Pokémon Red and Blue. Squirtle evolves into Wartortle and then Blastoise, ramping up its water powers with each evolution. |

When it conceals its neck, it also shoots a powerful stream of water from its mouth. Its shell not only protects its body, it also reduces water friction when it's in the water. When it levels up, it evolves into Wartortle. |
