Our guideline on this wiki regarding Minor NPCs is that any named character should get their own page. That's why it's so strange to me that the high-ranking members of the Tiki Tak Tribe, the main antagonists of Donkey Kong Country Returns, lack their own pages despite being named, not-even-minor characters. If this proposal passes, pages will be created for Kalimba, Maraca Gang, Gong-Oh, Banjo Bottom, Wacky Pipes, Xylobone, and Cordian. Their entries on the Tiki Tak Tribe page would remain as they are now, though Kalimba's Smash trophy and reference in Luigi's Mansion 2 would move over to his individual page. The split would also allow us to explain the origins of each member's name, and add foreign name sections to Kalimba, Gong-Oh, Banjo Bottom, and Xylobone (the ones mentioned in Smash Wii U / 3DS, see below), which is info we lack at the moment that I think the wiki should have. | Our guideline on this wiki regarding Minor NPCs is that any named character should get their own page. Tiki Tak Tribe leaders have names or not?
Retro's gone through the trouble of naming all the other enemies and bosses in the game, but why not these guys?
So if these seven (the three maraca ones are made up of one Tiki commander) aren't named, then what to do?

- They get conjectural names. Fawfulfury65
- If that's the case, it would be wise they be named after the instruments they're modeled after. BooDestroyer 18:01, 26 November 2010 (UTC)
- I thought about it once, if this is applicable:
- World 1 = Kalimba (was NWR so sure about this one?)
- World 2 = Maraca Trio
- World 3 = Gong
- World 4 = Stringy
- World 5 = Piper
- World 6 = Marimba (African type of xylophone)
- World 7 = Bellows (the stretchy pumping part of an accordion)
BooDestroyer 19:46, 26 November 2010 (UTC)
So, Tiki Kalimba, Tiki Maraca Trio, Tiki Gong, etc? Anyways, the red-blue one seems to be a cross between a drum and a so-called kalimba (if I'm right), and the guitar-like is surely a banjo. "Piper" looks like a cross between a flute and an air horn (or something). rend (talk) (edits)
I don't think we need to create separate articles for each member. There isn't much to type about other than their appearance and which boss they possess.--Knife (talk) 21:27, 26 November 2010 (UTC)
- I agree with Knife on this. --FREAK ~Game Freak~ OUT!
- Well, we have an article for each Star Spirit, Koopaling, etc. Why not for each Tiki dude? Bowser's luma
- Both of those appeared in more than one game and have individual characteristics (Attack pattern, power, ect). The tikis just appear to posess someone else and that's it. --Glowsquid 21:36, 26 November 2010 (UTC)

Is it possible to just make an article for all those Tiki "ambassadors" at once? I mean with this, to cover Those instrument-like Tikis in one article, or so. rend (talk) (edits)
Okay yeah, now we got this. The Tiki Tak Tribe are a COLLECTIVE, are they not?
Just like the Koopalings. In which case, they should have just one article and sections within on each of them.
BooDestroyer 22:41, 26 November 2010 (UTC)
We don't need sections either. You can't compare this to Koopalings or Star Spirits because they all have official names, a different role in the story, different abilities, and unique personalities. These enemies aren't even officially named individually and they don't have any characteristics separating each other besides their appearances. I don't think creating a new collective article is a good idea either since the only thing separating these Tikis from the rest of them is that they possess enemies rather than fight themselves. Not to mention that the collective article would have to be conjectural as well.--Knife (talk) 23:49, 26 November 2010 (UTC)
I agree with Knife on this. MrConcreteDonkey 23:54, 26 November 2010 (UTC)
Well, if they went through all that trouble to name all the other enemies and bosses but not these guys, then that's Retro's own fault. BooDestroyer 02:18, 27 November 2010 (UTC)
In Thugly's trophy description in Super Smash Bros 4, the World 6 tiki is named Xylobone. Does this count for anything? Phineas81707 (talk) 07:45, 3 December 2014 (EST)

Setting the record straight
So not long ago, I've gone and hit up Prima over Facebook about the names of those other Tiki leaders. I told them already about Kalimba Tiki, Gong Tiki, Banjo Tiki, and Xylophone Tiki. Then they filled me in on those last three: Maraca Bros. (apparently), Panflute Tiki, and Accordion Tiki. So there it is. This is as official as it gets. Straight from the people who were supposed to be responsible for this.
And for extra measure, I picked up on their Japanese names from several Japanese outlets for info on the game:
In order, they are as follows:
- カディリー (Kadiri)
- マラ (Mara), カッキー (Kaki), ラスキー (Raski)
- ゴングオー (Gong-Oh)
- ボンジョ (Bonjo?)
- ワッキーパイプ (Wacky Pipe)
- ザイロボーン (Xylobone)
- ディオン (Dion)
Interesting... BooDestroyer (talk) 14:30, 9 November 2017 (EST)
- is the facebook interraction availabl publically? If so, the direct link can be used as source on the article proper. If not, you could post a screencap or transcript of it on this talk. --Glowsquid (talk) 15:38, 9 November 2017 (EST)
- There, that should do it. BooDestroyer (talk) 16:05, 9 November 2017 (EST)

- But even ゴングオー, ボンジョ, and ザイロボーン are retained in the Japanese version of Smash for Wii U. That wasn't the only place to look for them. BooDestroyer (talk) 18:33, 9 November 2017 (EST)

It is worth mentioning that only Kalimba, Gong-Oh, Banjo Bottom, and Xylobone have official names (from Smash trophies; the latter three lack their own trophies but are mentioned in the descriptions of others, see the references section of the Tiki Tak Tribe page), while the names Maraca Gang, Wacky Pipes, and Cordian come from dev data. However, the dev names for Gong-Oh, Banjo Bottom, and Xylobone perfectly match their Smash trophy names, meaning it is almost certain that the dev names of the others are also their official names (though we would still keep the dev data name template on their pages, this is just for the sake of the proposal). Even if all these names were dev data, once again these are main antagonists of the game with unique designs and story/gameplay roles.

- PrincessPeachFan (talk): Hey, if the Snowmad commanders get their own pages.
- Nightwicked Bowser (talk) Per all, I brought this up a while back too (Music S.T.A.R.T)
- Camwoodstock (talk) Wait, we don't already do this? And we already split the Snowmad commanders?! We're... Genuinely shocked that these guys aren't already split. It's enough to snap you out of a trance!
- Arend (talk) Pretty much an artifact from years ago, when we didn't know their names (see discussion way above) and you don't technically fight them unlike the Snowmad commanders. Also worth noting, Kalimba has two other names: Krazy Kalimba (SSB4 Wii U trophy title) and Kalimba Tiki (US SSB4 trophy description)
- Rykitu (talk) Per all.
- DryBonesBandit (talk) I feel the urge to say "Per all.", as though some being willed it... (Per all.)

- Also just a general rule of thumb to make proposals for splits and merges like this. It's not like these are brand new characters that just got revealed, they've always been merged into this page for years. Technetium (talk) 13:28, January 27, 2025 (EST)

"it's so strange to me that the high-ranking members of the Tiki Tak Tribe... lack their own pages"
I think some of the points raised in this proposal were a major reason why they weren't split. Power Flotzo (talk) 14:33, January 27, 2025 (EST)
- At the very least they should share one article that's split from the main Tiki Tak Tribe, imo. "Tiki Commanders" or something, not sure what it would be called since there's no official name (hence why I'd still rather split them into individual pages). Technetium (talk) 15:01, January 27, 2025 (EST)
@Arend Yeah, I noticed the extra names - I mention those in the first sentence of my sandbox page for Kalimba. Technetium (talk) 15:01, January 27, 2025 (EST)
