Uploads
Hello, Conradd. Good job on your recent uploads, but when uploading files, keep in mind that you must correctly categorize the file. It's simple to learn how to do so. Just search for the correct category by starting with the following groups:
When uploading, copy the full title of the category and insert it in square brackets into the summary text box below the {{aboutfile}} template, replacing the {{uncategorized}} template entirely. If you're using the upload function from the text editor, simply add the category link to the description. For example, files related to the game Super Mario World would use: [[Category:Super Mario World images]]or [[Category:Super Mario World media files]] Please consider the above information before uploading more files. Keep in mind that some files can belong to multiple categories. Do not put images into the media files category, or vice versa. If you continue uploading files without categorizing them correctly, then a warning will be issued. Thank you for reading, and keep contributing. |
Hello, Conradd. Good job on your recent uploads, but when uploading files, keep in mind that you must apply the proper license. A full list of licenses can be found in the file copyright tags category, but the following are the most common:
When uploading, select the license from the drop-down box below the summary text box, or add the license manually after uploading or if you're using the upload function from the text editor. For example, artwork of Mario would use {{character-artwork}}. Please consider the above information before uploading more files. Don't include multiple copyright templates; choose the one that you feel best fits the file. If you continue uploading files without applying the correct license, then a warning will be issued. Thank you for reading, and keep contributing. |
In the future, please keep in mind that you need to add an image category link and license to the file description when you upload (or afterwards by editing the file page) as I've done here. I would suggest using Special:Upload instead. Mario JC 22:04, May 13, 2021 (EDT)
A few things regarding the articles you created as well: you were missing categories, and avoid adding unrelated navigation templates that don't include a link to the subject, so {{Super Mario games}}, {{Donkey Kong games}} and {{GBA}} should go (check your articles now to see the changes). MarioWiki:Manual of Style has more details. Mario JC 22:09, May 13, 2021 (EDT)
Italics
Hello, Conradd! Thanks for your contributions. When writing titles for media like games, films, TV shows, and publications, please remember to italicize them. This is done by placing two straight apostrophes (not quotation marks or curly apostrophes) on both sides of the title, or clicking on the I icon above the text box and typing out the title. For example, typing out ''[[Super Mario Bros.]]'' generates Super Mario Bros.
If you are using a device that uses curly ("smart") punctuation, you may need to disable this function in your device's settings to be able to type out the correct apostrophes. |

Userpage
Hi, its best to not have navigation templates and categories on userpages. Or else, your page will be registered as a page in a mainspace category such as Category:Donkey Kong enemies. WildWario (talk) 20:39, January 17, 2022 (EST)
Re: Pinballer
I think it should be fine, though I wouldn't mention it, as it's just a visual similarity. Spectrogram (talk) 11:57, August 16, 2022 (EDT)
RE: Mushrooms
- While I can understand "kinoko mark" might not be a suitable name for an actual mushroom, it's the only official name we have so that's what we should use for now. Though I can add "mushroom" after it in the template so it's referring to it specifically.
- "it is to indicate that it's something official or recognized" - Not necessarily; since the 2/3/5 UP Mushrooms are variants of the Super Mario Mushrooms specifically, which are already generally capitalised, it's acceptable to use it that way in a conjectural title. Shroob mushroom is different as it's an actual generic mushroom (and it's an official name anyway). Capitalisation in file names is a relatively minor concern and don't need to be moved to more accurate capitalisation (not to mention it's another generic mushroom anyway). Mario Movie French cast
Can you please provide a reliable source for the French voice actors and cite it on the article? Mario JC 00:47, December 1, 2022 (EST)
- Unless voice actors have confirmed roles in the film on social media, neither of these (where all there would be are community assumptions) are suitable sources. It's preferred that there's clear and official confirmation of the actors appearing. Even in English if a character does sound like a certain voice actor, we avoid listing them until there's confirmation. Mario JC 06:04, December 1, 2022 (EST)
Gummy Mushroom
One or more pages that you have recently created have been deleted or marked as a stub article. Please consider the following ideas and suggestions when expanding/creating an article:
|
Please don't create a new page with just an infobox and no information at all; a new article should only be started when you have enough information from the start. Mario JC 10:33, March 10, 2023 (EST)
Template:Earth
To my knowledge, many of the countries you added in the Earth template don't have immediate relevance to the Mario franchise (even referentially so, like Russia). Did they appear as a whole in any piece of Mario media? Egypt and Switzerland are valid entries since they're featured in comics as a general setting, with no connection to any particular settlement within; but if a country only appears through a given city, then it's best to only give that city an article to avoid redundancy. -- KOOPA CON CARNE 18:28, April 26, 2023 (EDT)
RE: Mario Party 8 forms names
The names with "Candy" omitted are not officially used in the game either IIRC (and also would look odd if they were written as just "Bowser" and "Thwomp"). Putting them in descriptive forms like "Bowlo Candy form" or "Bowlo Candy form" would work and no longer necessitate {{conjectural}} templates. The manual descriptions are inconsistent and don't use specific names so I don't think that would be a better idea. Mario JC 06:12, November 1, 2023 (EDT)
RE: Ashley's Theme
The appearances I could find of Ashley's Theme were WarioWare: Touched!, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Game & Wario, Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, WarioWare Gold, WarioWare: Get It Together!. Were there any I missed? ToxicOJ (talk) 23:40, November 5, 2023 (EST)
- Ok, counting Smooth Moves and D.I.Y. bring us to 8 arrangements. Since this fulfills the old standard for recurring themes, I'll go ahead and update the article and add it to the navbox of recurring themes. ToxicOJ (talk) 00:19, November 6, 2023 (EST)
RE: Additional Ground Theme (Super Mario Bros.)
Dang that is really obscure! I'll add it to the "Ground Theme" article. Thanks for sending it my way! ToxicOJ (talk) 17:10, November 6, 2023 (EST)
On "half translated" names
Actually, we have a rule on loanwords. LinkTheLefty (talk) 15:16, January 3, 2024 (EST)
- It... is English, though, just written in hirigana or katakana (which we don't use anyway). Move them back, if you object to the rule, you can discuss it later. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 16:52, January 3, 2024 (EST)
- Yes. Also, I think it makes perfect sense. We have a harder rule against using fan-translations as names. These loanwords aren't exactly that, though - they're more or less just direct transliterations. Only in cases where the word isn't clear-cut, like Kurasshā, do we go with literal romanizations. Like Doc said, if it's something you feel should change, you are free to discuss and present your case. LinkTheLefty (talk) 12:11, January 4, 2024 (EST)
