Electro-Koopas are quadruped Koopa Troopas with electric-spiked shells that primarily infest Pinna Park in Super Mario Sunshine. They are divided between a smaller-but-aggressive blue type and a larger-but-predictable red type.

Blue Electrokoopas[1] are found wandering the park grounds, becoming more and more common in later missions, but they can also appear in the King Boo fight at Hotel Delfino on Sirena Beach. Blue Electrokoopas throw their shells at Mario, which can electrocute him and remove a portion of his health. The shell returns to the Blue Electrokoopa like a boomerang. To defeat them, Mario can either stomp them once they are exposed after throwing their shells, or spray them with water to distract them and thus make them vulnerable to their own shell. A defeated Blue Electrokoopa releases one coin when jumped on, but it drops more coins (with the exact number varying by the episode) if it gets electrocuted by its own shell. If a Blue Electrokoopa throws its shell over a cliff, thus preventing it from returning, the shell disappears after a few moments, but the Blue Electrokoopa spontaneously grows a new one. Similarly, the shell will be destroyed if it lands in water, though it still takes some time before the Blue Electrokoopa replaces it.

Red Electrokoopas[2] instead climb on fences, making slow back-and-forth movements with pauses in between. To defeat Red Electrokoopas, Mario must kick, punch, or Ground Pound them from the other side of the fence or below them. When this happens, they fly off. Spraying them simply causes them to grunt annoyedly and bristle. They will shock Mario if he touches them, although they damage Mario by the shock and not by knocking him out of the metal fence, unlike a Klamber. As they climb, a squeaking noise can be heard; it is unknown if they produce the noise or if it is merely the grating they are walking upon creaking. Red Electrokoopas only appear in three missions and are also mostly found in Pinna Park. In Pinna Park in Episode 3, Red Coins of the Pirate Ships, they climb fences above the rides, and in Episode 5, The Runaway Ferris Wheel, they climb behind the Ferris Wheel to guard the Electro-Koopa King, a giant green one. Additionally, they appear in Pianta Village in Episode 3, The Goopy Inferno, where they climb on the fences of the village underside along with the more aggressive Klambers.
