Splunkins[1] are jack-o-lantern enemies in New Super Mario Bros. They walk left and right. If Mario jumps upon a Splunkin once, it will crack a bit and will increase its speed. Another hit will make it explode, defeating it and earning points. However, a Ground Pound will kill one instantly. They are sometimes found in larger groups. They appear in World 3-Ghost House, World 5-Ghost House, World 7-Ghost House, and World 8-1.
Their name is a pun on the word "spelunking" as well as "punkin," a slurring of the word "pumpkin."
