As they move, they leave trails of fiery goop behind them that will burn Mario. He can cool them down with water and grab onto their chains. Pulling back on them and releasing them sends the Chomplet flying. Mario cannot damage the Chomplets: they can only be "defeated" by cooling them off in bodies of water.
