Enemies section

It says on the page Super Mario Bros Deluxe was only availible in Japan. But that cant be, that was the first mario game i ever played and it deffinately wasnt in japanese. My sister got it for a gift.Widkid85 10:51, 11 February 2007 (EST)

No. This is by far the most common use of the phrase "Super Mario Bros.", while the meanings of things like Yoshi's Island all are used commonly enough. Max has a good point. I would be in favor of the move of this page to Super Mario Bros. (game) and linking the disambiguation page to the Mario and Luigi articles. Oh, and for the record, plenty of casual gamers call this game Mario Bros. I know we cater to the hardcore crowd, but it would prevent any confusion. Stumpers!

In the "list of levels" section, there are several links to non-existent pages. If I make these pages existent, does that count as SMWikifying? Or does it count as helping this page in any way? — Stooben Rooben Either way, I'm making the pages.

I don't know, but I have another question: Why is the underwater area in 8-4 secret? I think you have to go/swim through it to reach Bowser, don't you? I don't know how it is in 5-2, though. And BTW, sorry if that sounds impolite (I don't hope so), but your world pages sound a li'l bit opiniated. Trivia section

One of the two trivias of SMB is that "contrary to popular belief, it is possible for the player to jump over the flag in certain levels of the game," or something. This is not the first place I've heard this rumor, but for some reason there are no pictures of this trick, or list of levels that you can jump over the flag. Beta Mushroom Music

He used a Game Genie code. Therefore, obviously it shouldn't be included in the article. Stuff without Game Genie, such as the infamous World-1 glitch or stuff, should be added. Also, if the guy corrupted it, it makes it his own video, which is not nnintendo related. Other comments? Super-YoshiMust...eat...sig...Talk? C???

I've been wondering, why are there stars on Worlds 3 and 6? Mr.C

North American release date change

I have changed the North American release date (formerly listed in the infobox as 18/10/1985) to "1985/1986". (In fact, it should probably be changed to just 1986.) It was impossible to release the game in Japan on 13/9 and then turn around and release it in the USA one month later. A discussion is currently taking place at Wikipedia (wikipedia:Talk:Super Mario Bros.#North American Release Date) and here's what I can gather from reading it:

  • SMB was released in Japan on 13/9/85, as we know.
  • Nintendo approached New York retailers around the same time in order to get their products in store for Christmas. It is thought 18/10 is the day they started this. SMB was not even a pack-in in Japan yet. The Christmas shopping season started on 29/11 that year.
  • During the same three months, sales of SMB boomed in Japan. Then-Nintendo president Hiroshi Yamauchi decided to pack-in SMB with the Famicom in late November or early December. Then, he decided to bring it to the US. Which means US game development commenced in December 1985, pretty much ruling out a 1985 release date.
  • The NES was test-marketed that Christmas in NY. Only 50K of 100K units sold, so they went to LA the next February. It's pretty certain that SMB was not available in NY, but it possibly could have been available in LA. Supporting this is an ad from the LA Times in 13/3/86 that supposedly mentions SMB. (It's pay-to-view, so no one knows for sure - all we know comes from the descriptive text that comes with the Google result.)
  • So it is reasonable to conclude that SMB was released to the entire country sometime after that LA Times ad. Similar ads and full-blown news stories start to widely appear in August. The first mention in any English-language media is a 19/8/86 Reuters story in the Philadelphia Inquirer and several other newspapers.

Conclusion: Now, Mario games can be released almost simultaneously in all regions, and Nintendo knows they will sell well. But it was different in 1985. Nintendo had no idea how SMB would sell in Japan, and it would have been silly to throw money at a US version without ensuring it had strong Japanese sales first. SMB did sell well in Japan, and (to quote one of the participants in the linked discussion) "sales take time, they don't happen immediately." By the time Nintendo realised it would be a good idea to come to the US, it was already 1986. The 18/10/85 date is pure hokey. Nintendo doesn't even know where they got it from. So there's my case. Mushroom Retainers

Several users have changed the Mushroom Retainers in the Non-playable section to Toad the character now, and it still continues to happen. Once and for all: There are six Mushroom Retainers in that game! It is absolutely impossible that all these retainers are in fact Toad. Toad can not split up to six different characters that are trapped in six different fortresses. It is impossible!

The user Byllant removed the Bowser artwork from this article because it is seen on the Japanese flyer for Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels, aka Super Mario Bros. 2. But this is not the only artwork found in this article's gallery that is printed on the flyer. If you have read the "Iwata Asks" interviews for Flipnote Studio, you might know that there was just the character art on the Japanese SMB package drawn by Shigeru Miyamoto and the artwork in the manual when SMB was originally released. Then the animation artist Yoichi Kotabe came to Nintendo and drew new character art, as seen on the flyer. But if this artwork was already used before the release of The Lost Levels or not, I don't know. So either all the more recent artwork should be removed from the article and moved to The Lost Levels, or a note should be added that it is unclear for which game the artwork was first used. --Grandy02 07:40, 15 May 2010 (EDT)

You mean adding the images to both galleries (and categories)? Actually, that's what I wouldn't like that much, as a lot of artwork has been reused various times in the franchise's history. I've seen that galleries usually ignore reused artwork. Therefore, I'd prefer to only use artwork for the earliest game it was used for sure. The only thing known for sure is that the artwork seen on the flyer didn't exist when Super Mario Bros. was originally released. As it isn't exactly known when the artwork first appeared, I'd rather add them to the Lost Levels gallery. I just have an idea. I think it would be a good idea to include a quote from Miyamoto, Kondo, or Tezuka from the Super Mario All Stars: Limited Edition booklet. Starting from the last world the player gets Game Over

With both NES Classics: Super Mario Bros. and Famicom Mini: Super Mario Bros. 2 (a.k.a. Super Mario Bros: The Lost Levels), would it be worth mentioning in the Trivia section that if you press "A" and then "START" at the same time on the GBA Versions of the games, the player will start from the World they got Game Over on. Misplaced information

In the trivia section: "Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3 had Classic World 1-1, 1-2, 1-3, 1-4, and 2-2 released as card levels for World-e. Only World 1-1 was released outside Japan." What has this to do with Super Mario Bros. ? Shouldn't we remove it ?

How can you make the 1-up glitch?

Incorrect trivia?

"The Mario sprite on the cover is the same sprite on the Donkey Kong and Mario Bros. NES games."

But the SMB cover sprite is the Fire Mario sprite, whereas Fire Mario didn't exist in DK and Mario Bros. (Also, didn't DK and Mario Bros. have Mario with his soon to be traditional blue overalls and red shirt, while SMB had him in a different outfit?)

It just means that Mario's picture is the same shape as in the DK and MB box arts.

mention music in 3D world

In the section of this article labeled References in later games, most uses of the super mario overworld theme music in later games are listed, but its use in Super Mario 3D World is omitted. A version of the theme is used as the music for some levels such as level Star-1 Rainbow Run. Please add it to the list entry for 3D World in that section.

Glitch on hard mode?

On my 3DS I've got to "hard mode", and a lot of times I reset it to start over. But when I do so, it sometimes takes me to 2-1, 3-1, or 4-1. iirc, the game does have a slight memory. When you reset, the game takes you to the first level of the world you were in. I think if you hold A while you press START, you'll return to the world you died in? Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 19:19, 21 May 2017 (EDT)

As I know that the sticks and the pads would be similar to the other versions, simply because it is the standart.
