The Rainbow Star is a star that appears in Super Mario Galaxy. Much like regular stars, this star causes Mario to turn invincible. When Mario uses the star, he becomes a rainbow color and leaves a trail of light behind him whenever he runs. If Mario keep on running and doesn't stop he'll get star shards. If he stops he won't get any.
In a video, it appears as if Mario was not able to stop running.
