Banshee Boardwalk is the third track of the Special Cup in Mario Kart 64. It resembles the Ghost Valley courses from Super Mario Kart, in terms of overall maps, themes, and music. The race begins on a boardwalk with some guardrails missing. Additionally, a giant Cheep Cheep jumpa out of the water, but it cannot harm the player. The second half of the race features an abandoned shack where bats fly at the racers, lowering their speed. The bats don't appear in Time Trial mode. Additionally, in some parts of the track some Boos appear, but they just laugh when the player passes by.
Mario Kart DS
This course returns as the second track in the Lightning Cup of Mario Kart DS. The Cheep Cheep is replaced by a Bubba and the bats are replaced by Swoops. Finally, the Swoops appear in Time Trial. The Boos (as in Luigi's Mansion) appear only during Grand Prix and Time Trial. The course was never available in Wi-Fi. It is the longest retro course of the game.
Official descriptions
Mario Kart 64
- Instruction manual: "A dark and mysterious boardwalk over water is the location for this course. At the corners, some guardrails are missing, making its design quite rough. At the old building that you pass through along the way, try not to run into the large army of bats."
Mario Kart DS
- US website: "This boardwalk was made for racing. Narrow straightaways and spooky hallways make for some of the most unpredictable racing action you've ever seen!"
- European website: "This rickety wooden walkway is haunted by the spirits of drivers who've fallen to their doom from its barrier-less bends. At least, that's what the rumours say. But say 'Boo' to the old ghost stories and concentrate on keeping your kart on the straight and narrow."
