A Gold Koopa Troopa is a Koopa Troopa that is turned golden for an amount of time when touching a Gold Ring. When a Gold Koopa Troopa Shell is thrown, a path of coins will follow it. Whenever a Gold Koopa Troopa Shell is thrown at an Enemy an increasing number of coins will be earned for each enemy defeated. Gold Shell appear in other games such as Super Mario Galaxy, and Super Mario 3D World, but only in New Super Mario Bros. 2 they are an enemy.
