Template:Location-infobox Template:LLquote New Donk City[1] is a location featured in the upcoming Super Mario game Super Mario Odyssey. It is based off of the real world location New York City, and is notable for featuring humans as the main inhabitants instead of traditional Mario characters (Pauline, its mayor, notwithstanding). Its nickname, "The city that never leaps", is a play on another nickname for New York City, "The city that never sleeps." According to one of the residents of the city, it was the founding location of the Crazy Cap store chain.

Description

The city's design is largely inspired by real world big cities, most notably New York City. It features many typical things found in cities, such as fire hydrants, street lamps and stoplights (the latter of which Mario is able to grab onto and swing on to jump forward). There are taxis driving throughout the city, which Mario is able to bounce off of the front hoods of in order to gain extra jump height. There are also many billboards, some of which advertise about other locations in the game. Many of the streets and some of the billboards and advertisements in the city are named after characters from the Donkey Kong franchise, such as "Diddy's Mart", "Dixie Street", "Tiny's PIROSHKIS" and "Cranky Avenue", not to mention the city itself; additionally, there are some red girders that appear in New Donk City as a reference to the original Donkey Kong arcade game. The city is located on an elevated platform above many other buildings.

New Donk City is possibly where the wedding between Peach and Bowser will take place, as there are billboards announcing it found throughout the city. During E3 2017, it was revealed that Pauline is the mayor of New Donk City.[2] She appears at the New Donk City Festival in the E3 2017 trailer.[3] It is implied via dialogue by some of the inhabitants and by Pauline herself that the city had undergone a massive disaster that damaged it, and that she, alongside Mario, played a key role in restoring the city.
