Revision as of 14:06, August 4, 2007

Proposals can be new features (such as an extension), removal of a previously added feature that has tired out, or new policies that must be approved via consensus before any action(s) are done.
  • Any user can support or oppose, but must have a strong reason for doing so, not, e.g., "I like this idea!"
  • "Vote" periods last for one week.
  • Any past proposals are archived.

A proposal section works like a discussion page: comments are brought up and replied to using indents (colons, such as : or ::::) and all edits are signed with the signature code ~~~(~).

How To

  1. Actions that sysops or users feel are appropriate to have community approval first can be added by anyone, but they must have a strong argument.
  2. Users then vote and discuss on the issue during that week. The "deadline" for the proposal is one week from posting at:
    1. Monday to Thursday: 17:00 (5pm)
    2. Friday and Saturday: 20:00 (8pm)
    3. Sunday: 15:00 (3pm)
  3. At any time a vote may be rejected if at least three active users believe the vote truly has strong reasons supporting it. Every vote should have a reason accompanying it.
  4. "# " should be added under the last vote of each support/oppose section to show another blank line.
  5. At the deadline, the validity of each vote and the discussion is reviewed by the community.
  6. A sysop or user calls the result of the proposal and takes action(s) as decided if necessary, and archives the proposal.

The times are in EDT, and are set so that the user is more likely to be online at those times (after school, weekend nights).

So for example, if a proposal is added on Saturday night at 11:59 PM EDT, the deadline is the next Saturday night at 8:00 PM. If it is indeed a minute later, the deadline is a day plus 15 hours (Sunday), as opposed to a day minus 4 hours.

Removals

Scroll Boxes

The template {{scroll box}} is used in Big Eight articles for galleries, quotes, and navigation templates to make the articles look shorter. If the proposal of removing them is accepted, the template should still be kept, as it is used outside of the Big Eight articles as well.

Support Removal

  1. Cobold (talk · contribs) - In my opinion, they are really hindering the article flow and style, creating errors when trying to edit sections coming after the scroll box, and might simply annoy readers, including me.
  2. Mario riding YoshiXzelionETC I agree
  3. Master Crash Ya,
  4. My Bloody Valentine I completely agree with Cobold.

Oppose

  1. Tadaa!2.gifPlumberTadaaa!.gif It cuts down the size of the article.

Xterra1 They don't hurt.

Changes

Monobook Reskin

REJECTED 7-3 This may sound VERY insane to all of you, but I would like the wiki reskinned to black? This is not because it looks slicker (though I think it does :P ), it is because it saves power. Just use www.blackle.com as an example (Currently 112,468.241 Watt hours saved). If this is accepted, anyone who likes the white can just ask me to make the wiki look how it used to again.

Support

  1. Tadaa!2.gifPlumberTadaaa!.gif 23:49, 24 July 2007 (EDT)
  2. SaudyTalk! 00:04, 25 July 2007 (EDT) I was with PLUMs while he decided to make this a proposal, and I would like to reiterate the environmentally friendliness of MY OWN skin. Check it out, it looks slick, too.
  3. f_wikiimagem_a663437.pngBean 00:15, 25 July 2007 (EDT) Saves energy.

Oppose

  1. Wa Yoshihead.png TC@Y – Our default skin is a fair one that works for our plentiful guests. If you are concerned with energy, do you part by making your skin dark. We're not changing the appearance of what's now a high-frequency site for activists. Secondly, this shouldn't be a proposal, this is Steve's decision.
  2. Mario riding YoshiXzelionETC-What Wayoshi said.
  3. Cobold (talk · contribs) - In my opinion, a black page looks unusual especially in the MediaWiki software, and might more scare away new visitors than attracting them. You can still, like the others said, use your own monobook skin.
  4. Max2 (talk) It could scare away young and new users, it looks freaky, and you have to ask Steve anyway.
  5. YELLOWYOSHI398 – Black and other dark colors don't seem to fit the theme of a Mario wiki well. Like everyone else said, you can change your own monobooks if you want.
  6. Full Metal MoogleKirbyWalk.gif - It would hurt eyes, and it would also be (As Max2 said,) scary for the children.
  7. Master Crash its too dark, have you seen boo mansion? it make mario look evil.

Comments

You can change the text color you know. Tadaa!2.gifPlumberTadaaa!.gif

We'd have light blue text, it looks nice.SaudyTalk!

Should we perhaps take it up with Porplemontage? He did create the default monobook and you can't do anything without his permission regardless of whether this proposal is won. Ask him first.Knife (talk) 00:17, 25 July 2007 (EDT)

And slick or nice in whos opinion, most users aren't fans of dark colors. If you wanna save energy you should probably change your monobooks. Mario riding YoshiXzelionETC
And most users aren't fans of dark colors isn't an opinion? I just wanna save more energy than I already am. Tadaa!2.gifPlumberTadaaa!.gif 11:19, 25 July 2007 (EDT)
Tch. I'll just make a note on the main page for all environmentally concerned users. And stop telling us to change our own, mine is ALREADY more friendly to the environment than you can imagine. The Blued doesn't look creepy, it looks very nice, I use it everyday. Xzelion shouldn't have a say in this, considering the MWUserpedia incident...SaudyTalk!

Don't do it. Hk, it's dark and creepy. I'm not trying to insult, but make your own Emo monobook, don't change bright colors most of us enjoy. Max2 (talk) Either way, Steve will say no.

Take back that Emo comment if you know what's good for you.SaudyTalk!

All I'm saying is, go be dark and creepy somewhere else. There are a lot of people here who hate black. Max2 (talk) More than you 3 who like it.

Max2, this has NOTHING to do with black or how it's cool. It's about the fact that it consume less power. Gofer

It'll consume less power because NO BODY WILL JOIN WHEN THEY THINK WERE ALL GOTHS OR SOMETHING. And then we'd have to change the logo, which teve would like never say yes to, I've heard. Max2 (talk)

The power play is that black costs less energy to power up.SaudyTalk!

and then there would be a huge decrease in new guests. Face it, Mario is for kids. Kids like bright. Not dark. Max2 (talk)

If it costs less energy to run, that means it also costs less MONEY....SaudyTalk!

but at the cost of less users. Max2 (talk) Don't we want more users?

Isn't Steve on a frugal streak as of now? I mean, look at the ads!SaudyTalk!

Why is black instantly associated with evil, creepy, Goth, and Emo? That's actually a bad stereotype, you guys. Jeez. Because something is dark, that doesn't mean its diseased or something.SaudyTalk!

It doesn't cost me anything more or less. The "causing less energy to run" argument takes place on the user's side because their monitor will use less energy to display the site. --Steve (talk) Get Firefox 15:55, 25 July 2007 (EDT)

That's how i thought it would work. Too bad for me!SaudyTalk!

why can't you think of like blue or something?

New Banners

Everyone should have noticed by now that we have gotten new banners on the main page. Is it just me or do these banners look worse than the ones we had before? I suggest we make new banners consisting of two characters per banner and using the same artwork for all three banners. Knowledge Base could have Mario and Luigi, Wiki Stuff could have Peach and Daisy, and finally External Links could have Wario and Waluigi. If someone thinks this is unfair to other characters we could add Yoshi to Mario and Luigi, Toad to Peach and Daisy, and Bowser to Wario and Waluigi. If this is agreed upon someone could use artwork from a game like Itadaki Street DS or Mario Party 8. (I like the Itadaki art)

Here is a possible outcome for the front page.
Here is a second example banner.

Support

  1. The MissingLinkBowser 2.PNGI like the new ones but I would rather have a different desighn.
  2. Wa Yoshihead.png TC@Y – anything with the same artwork. Itadaki ended up looking nice!

Comments

I think we should he atleasts Mario, Luigi, Bowser,Peach,Yoshi, and Wario in the banners. The MissingLinkBowser 2.PNGThat's what I think

Um, just to get this straight we're voting for new banners? So Support is to support new banners and opppose is to just stay with the most recent ones? Mario riding YoshiXzelionETC

Basically. Fixitup

The above is something I whipped up. There is a version of the WIKI STUFF banner without Toad and another without Yoshi, I added them because there ended up being room. So everyone please tell me what you think and how I could improve or if they are fine as is. Fixitup

I would suggest making WIKI STUFF less bright on the right-hand side. Wa Yoshihead.png TC@Y 22:54, 30 July 2007 (EDT)
Shouldn't we just take this straight to Steve? Like I did last time. Mario riding YoshiXzelionETC
The first is better IMO Mario riding YoshiXzelionETC

Splits

One of the most common proposals, related to splitting one article into multiple ones.

Merges

One of the most common proposals, related to combining articles into one.

Merge Minor Articles in Category:Implied into One List Page

Most of the implied article are just too stubish and can't really be improved. And really, making an article on an organization that was briefly mentioned in some game just look silly. I thought we could merge all those article into one big page. Of course, some such as Pixl Queen, Waffle Kingdom and Scarlette could remain as article because of the importance thgey have in their respective game. Only Minor one (Such as Old Man Skoo.) should be merged.

Support Merge

Oppose Merge

  1. Wa Yoshihead.png TC@Y – each article has potential to become at least decent. "List of Implied Items in the Marioverse" could become large in time.

Comments

This is a bad idea, one that page would be super long that no-one could edit it w/o major lag, 2. Most pages do have enough info, but some could use work. Mario riding YoshiXzelionETC
