- In Paper Mario: Sticker Star, when Mario reaches the end of a level, the Comet Piece will turn yellow, regardless of which color it was when Mario got it.
- Concept artwork from New Super Mario Bros. Wii (pictured) shows that a power-up that resembles a chicken suit was originally intended to be in the game, but was eventually changed into the Penguin Suit.
- In Donkey Kong Country Returns and its remake, Mr. Game & Watch can be seen background of Foggy Fumes.
- Mario was meant to appear in the Disney movie Wreck it Ralph, but the idea was dismissed since the writers couldn't think of a suitable way to incorporate him into the movie; he is mentioned once, however.
