Glacial Meltdown

Introduction

The minigame opens with the 4 characters on an iceberg. When a Buzzy Beetle comes, they are scared by it. However, one of the characters knocks the Buzzy Beetle back into the ocean.

Gameplay

All of the characters are on a large chunk of ice, attempting to knock all the other players off. There is also a Lakitu floating above the iceberg who will drop Buzzy Beetles; although these Buzzy Beetles hurt characters, the Buzzy Beetles can prove themselves helpful in that jumping on them results in them retreating into their shell, which nearby players can kick into opponents. Whoever is the last one on the ice wins.

It is possible for all four characters to fall off the platform. If this happens, the player who last fell off will win the minigame.

Ending

The last player standing does a victory pose while all 3 other players are on separate icebergs farther away.

Alternate: If the last player standing falls in the water, he or she will pose their victory on the farther icebergs (next to the other three players that lost).

Trivia

• Although Lakitus throw Spinies in most games, one (as aforementioned) strangely tosses Buzzy Beetles in this minigame, a feat performed nowhere else. This was likely done by the developers to create a stompable enemy for the minigame.
• Although Glacial Meltdown does not have a time limit, if the game lasts for a long time without three players falling into the water, a time limit of 30 seconds appears on the screen.
