Squirtle

History

Super Smash Bros. Melee

In Super Smash Bros. Melee, Squirtle is the first Pokémon to appear on the Poké Floats stage, and it has a Trophy

Super Smash Bros. Brawl

Squirtle is a playable character in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. However, it takes commands from the Pokémon Trainer, who is the real mastermind behind Squirtle's actions. The other two Pokémon used by Pokémon Trainer are Ivysaur and Charizard. When the Pokémon Trainer uses Pokémon Change, he returns Squirtle and sends out Ivysaur next. Squirtle is the lightest of the group.

Like all Pokémon of the Pokémon Trainer, Squirtle shares the damage meter with the other Pokémon and has a special stamina stat. It is there to regulate the Pokémon changes. When the player changes Pokémon rarely or too often, the stamina of the Pokémon runs low. Squirtle has the ability to stick to walls. From there, the player can input any attack command or jump in order to get off the wall.

The Subspace Emissary

In the Subspace Emissary, the Pokémon Trainer starts out with only Squirtle. Eventually, he earns Ivysaur and Charizard.

Special Moves

Water Gun

Squirtle's Water Gun.

Water Gun is a move used by Squirtle in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. It is its Standard Special Move and is made to match the effects of Water Gun in the Pokémon series. It simply shoots water out of its mouth, doing no damage, but it acts as a repulsive force, sending combatants backward much like F.L.U.D.D.. Kirby can use Water Gun when he absorbs Squirtle's powers.

In the Pokémon series, Water Gun actually deals damage to opponents.

Withdraw

Withdraw is Squirtle's side special move, and it can be used to travel a long distance. When used, Squirtle will withdraw its body into its shell and slide towards the other players at great speed. This move gives resistance from being launched for the duration of the attack. It is possible that the move launches other players into the air when hit, which is common for attacks like this. If Squirtle is jumped on while using Withdraw, he will be flipped over like a Koopa and stunned for a moment.

The move is based on the attack in the Pokémon series, Withdraw, which is a defensive move that raises the user's defense by 1, but does not damage or affect the opponent's Pokémon.

Waterfall

Template:Redirectshere Waterfall is Squirtle's Up special move used in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. When Squirtle uses this attack, it runs diagonally up a small waterfall which appears out of nowhere and rides it (this can be used as a third jump). It can damage opponents as it rides the waterfall upward.

It is based on the move, Waterfall, from the Pokémon series, where the Pokémon using this move can traverse waterfalls even outside of battles. It has a similar trajectory to Mario's Super Jump Punch.

When switching out Squirtle when using Pokémon Change, Ivysaur is summoned to battle.

Hydro Pump

Squirtle's role in Triple Finish is to use Hydro Pump. Squirtle shoots this in all directions in the direction it is facing. It doesn't have that much power, but it does help with racking up damage and juggling.

Trivia

• Along with Sheik, Zero Suit Samus, and Sonic, Squirtle is one of the few characters in the Subspace Emissary not to be seen in trophy form.
• Even if Squirtle can stay in water in the Pokemon series Squirtle can drown while staying in the water for too long.
