On his way through [[Shy Guy's Toy Box]], Mario encounters a monster called the [[Big Lantern Ghost]]. To defeat him, [[Bow]] had to smack the lamp to bring light into the room, giving Mario the ability to damage him. This would be her improved look.]] After his defeat, Mario finds a [[Li'l Sparky]] named Watt and releases her from the lantern. Overjoyed, Watt joins the party. By pressing C-Down, Mario can light up dark places and find hidden blocks invisible to the naked eye (at least, until hit).

The battle against the ghost involves attacking the lantern he carries to make the room brighter, and after his defeat Mario can break open the lantern and find Watt inside.


Although Watt is a female, some text in Paper Mario refer to her as "he," such as the description of her new powers from a Super Block.
Watt explains to him that the Big Lantern Ghost had kidnapped her and trapped her in the lantern. She tells Mario that she heard some of the [[Shy Guy]]s talking about him, and she volunteers to join him and his party on his quest. Watt's C down ability allows Mario to hold her like a lantern, illuminating dark places and allowing him to find invisible boxes and items. Watt's main attack also has the ability to automatically overide an enemies defenses, making her a valuable partner in many battles.

Watt is Mario's sixth party member in Paper Mario.
