Three different "Toad Brigade"s
I think there are 3 different groups of Toads. Super Mario Sunshine's has Toad as the leader (well, there's no leader, it's not even a brigade), and it appears during the intro of Super Mario Galaxy (where you see different colored Toads, but the red one has a blue vest). Then there's the one in Super Mario Galaxy, and the one in Super Mario Galaxy 2 (that is hinted to be another brigade). Should the Super Mario Sunshine part of the article be deleted ? Except if we get a proof from Nintendo that the leader of Super Mario Galaxy's Toad Brigade is Toad... Koopalmier 00:11, 20 June 2010 (UTC)

Is it confirmed that these are the Toads from Sunshine? - Cobold (talk · contribs) 10:15, 15 November 2007 (EST)

It doesn't resemble the normal toad. I looked at him and he has a red jacket, not a blue one. GrodenE T C El

It's never confirmed, but it's heavily suggested due to there being five Toads of the same colors. -- Booster

I think they're confirmed, however in Galaxy they wear different things (the blue one wears glasses, red one carries a mailbag, all of them are sometimes seen wearing headlamps). -TheDenzel

Well the only way to explain that is the blue one looked at the sun in Isle Delfino too long, the purple one got a new carrier, and the green one had the job to mine all in the nick of time for Super Mario Galaxy. Does that make sense? No it doesn't. GrodenE T C El

I think you're looking too far into it. It's a Super Mario game, most things can't be explained and there's really very little continuity in the games. The five Toads are the same five colored Toads from Super Mario Sunshine, which leads people to believe, and is meant to, that they are the same in both games. They were merely given more to do in Galaxy and as such, they were given more personality and had to be given special traits to set them apart. UrsulaBoi 11:03, 3 December 2007 (EST)

Well, they're probably not the same toads however. GrodenE T C El

I disagree: five Toads accompanied Peach in SMS, so why do you find it strange they're in SMG? ND IRISH ROCK! 18:32, 8 January 2008 (EST)

Sometimes, things like this have to be inferred instead of proven. There is no way to prove these are the same Toads from SMS, yet there is no way to prove they aren't. But we can logically infer that the five colored Toads are the same and were featured in both games because they have more similarities than differences. It is likely that they are the same Toads, but Nintendo want to diversify them so they got their glasses, careers, pickaxes, etc..Knife (talk) 22:23, 9 January 2008 (EST)

Can someone get a better piture for the toad leader? one that is not pixilated like the current one is?

It is even more likely that the Red on is TOAD. "sulks" - Ultimatetoad

Whoever keeps writing about them being the same ones as in sunshine, can you stop? If they were the same toads they would probably say something about their past adventure(s).Sprite of a Bob-omb from Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars Bob-omb buddy Sprite of a Bob-omb from Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars

Peach, Luigi, Bowser, Yoshi etc. also never talk about their past adventures. That's not an argument. - Cobold (talk · contribs) 14:32, 7 July 2008 (EDT)

In this image, the Toad with the red-dotted cap wears a blue vest (the Toad?), but the red Toad from the Toad Brigade actually wears a red vest. Are they the same? --Grandy02 14:44, 7 July 2008 (EDT)

Hard to say. -- Booster

There's no reason Toad couldn't simply change his vest sometimes. He probably changed it some point after becoming friends with the other four members of the Toad Brigade (before Sunshine but after the event in that picture). Buddy Christ

Hats or Heads?

What are those strange mushroom-things on the top of the heads of Toads, exactly? Most games don't touch this subject except a few...

Support for Heads: - In Super Mario RPG, the Chancellor exclaims that when he heard the giant sword crash into Bowser's Keep, he nearly dropped his spores. That may have been a joke, but nevertheless, he does say that. Note that Ted Woolsey, whom was known as a translator who tended to spice up dry Japanese dialogue for Square's SNES RPGs, worked on Super Mario RPG. - In Super Paper Mario, Toad's card says that the Mushroom people of that dimension or known for their strange spotted heads.

Support for Hats: - In alternate media, they are sometimes viewed as caps. In particular, there is a Super Mario Bros. Super Show episode where Toad uses his hat as a parachute, revealing a bald head underneath. This may not have any connection to the games, however. - This is probably the biggest piece of evidence: om_legend_big.jpg The player's guide is directly translated and localized from the Japanese one, resulting in this story artwork not unlike those you would see in other NES games (like Zelda, Metroid, or Kid Icarus). It has a noticeably different art style from the game's cover, like those games as well. Here, it shows the game faces of the Mushroom King and Queen, as well as Peach with a different dress... And a mushroom cap (her parents wear them as well)! He guards don't seem to be wearing them, as well. This could prove that they are caps, as Peach owned one while we know she has hair. Though technically, they are human characters that wear them, but also remember that Peach's apparent grandmother is a Toad.

Maybe it should be mentioned in the article that there are depictions of Toads with either their mushroom-things attached to their heads or simply something for wardrobe. LinkTheLefty 21:13, 20 August 2008 (EDT)

Evidence that the red toad is Toad?

The Toad trading card from the Super Mario Galaxy series of cards (by Enterplay) says that he's indeed from the Toad Brigade: "Toad is Princess Peach's closest confidant and sworn protector. Typically Toad is a happy character, as seen by the constant smile on his face. But now he has reason to be concerned. His beloved princess has been kidnapped by Bowser, and Toad will stop at nothing to help find her. Just when all is feared lost, Toad and his friends appear in their Mushroom-shaped ships and help guide Mario on his quest to save Princess Peach." This is from official Nintendo merchandise, but it might be somewhat problematic seeing as the image used for Toad is the blue-vested official art from SMG. I dunno, it might be worth mentioning in the trivia, anyway. UrsulaBoi 12:16, 9 April 2010 (EDT)

I would say, yes, this is worthy of mention both on the Toad character page and this page, but without stating definitely he is Toad. Something along the lines of "According to the SMG trading card series..." yadda yadda yadda... then, "However, he is also depicted in a different outfit than in the game" or something like that. Basically, provide room for both interpretations (he might be a different character of he might be the Toad). Culex 13:25, 9 April 2010 (EDT)
Wait. Also check out this image. The red capped Toad is wearing a blue vest, like the Toad and also the image you described from the trading card. More evidence lending itself to the notion that the red Toad is the Toad (although perhaps not completely conclusive). Culex 13:31, 9 April 2010 (EDT)

A new Toad Brigade?

Although my memory of the specific dialogue is foggy, I believe some of the Red Toad's discussion with Mario early on in the game suggests that the Galaxy 2 Toad Brigade is not the same group we came to know in the prequel. This would make sense, seeing how the original Brigade was promoted to Royal Guard status in the ending. Any thoughts? NMRodo
