Template:Worldbox World 5 is a world encountered in New Super Mario Bros. This world is predominantly snow-themed, and features many Warp pipes, so the player can complete this world without playing every single level. As usual, this world has a Tower, in which Bowser Jr is fought, and a Ghost House.

The boss here is Petey Piranha. Defeating him allows access to World 6 as well as World 7 if you beat Petey Piranha as Mini Mario.

5-1 (Conio-Conieay Ground)

This level has snow from trees that can fall on Mario. If this happens, he should escape (press A) or else enemies can attack him. Start by avoiding the Snow Spikes and their snowballs. Soon, Mario will run into some deep snow, in which he can barely jump. Either jump on the blocks above or go through the snow, avoiding Goombas. By jumping on a block above deep snow and jumping again, Mario can get the first Star Coin. Mario should jump on a Paratroopa or use a flying block to get the second Star Coin. The third Star Coin is obtained by jumping on a block that, when hit, will grow more blocks. Jump on the stack of blocks to obtain the coin. After avoiding more falling snow and more enemies, Mario reaches the Flagpole.

=Star Coins

  • Star Coin 1 - Jump on the nearby block and then jump off it to get the Star Coin.
  • Star Coin 2 - Hit the Flying ? Block when it is near the coin to create a platform to jump on.
  • Star Coin 3 - Hit the Block Stack to make it grow tall enough to reach the Star Coin.

5-2 (Ice Hole)

Fire Mario runs under several Spike Tops in a level in New Super Mario Bros.
World 5-2.

This level is another underground cave where ice covers the ground. Mario should avoid the Spike Tops and Swoopers. To get the first Star Coin, Mario should go up, avoiding the Piranha Plants, and then he should hit blocks above him. After the Piranha Plants are two pipes, one yellow, one red. The player should go ahead to an area with a springboard. Above it is actually the third Star Coin. Mario should get the coin and move the springboard to the yellow and red pipes seen earlier. If the player jumps into the yellow one, they will go to an area with a Moneybag (the coin). Go to the end to grab the second Star Coin by Wall Jumping to it. After going through the Warp Pipe, Mario just needs to jump across more ice, avoiding more Spike Tops, to make it to the Flagpole.

Secret Exit

Near the end of the level, the player should see a large block of ice with two Spike Tops on it, and a pipe with a Piranha Plant above it. Enter the pipe to reach the Secret Exit. This lets Mario go through a pipe that takes him to 5-3.

5-A (Iceshroom Gorge)

This level has mushroom platforms that shrink and expand. Mario needs to time his jumps, because not all platforms move together. After the checkpoint, Mario can get the first Star Coin by going down to a mushroom platform. He needs to hit a ! Switch to return. Just after that, Mario should find a single block. If he hits it by running and jumping, a Beanstalk will pop out, taking him to an area with the second Star Coin. The player should later see two mushroom platforms that are able to touch each other. Mario should stand in between them and jump when they shrink, getting the last Star Coin. Then, Mario will reach the Flagpole.

5-Tower (Bowser Jr.'s Fortress 5)

This level is just basically a platform that moves up. Soon, some spiked balls will fall onto the platform. Mario needs to keep jumping to avoid damage. The balls will later roll away, some taking longer than others. Sometimes, Dry Bones will get onto the platform, but the spiked balls will soon crush them. If Mario stays to the right of the platform, he will get the first Star Coin. Then, by staying in the middle, the second Star Coin can be obtained. After there are two spiked balls together on the platform, stay to the left to avoid being damaged by a big spiked ball. When the path splits into two, Mario should take the right path to get the final Star Coin. Soon, Mario will reach the double doors. Slippery ice covers the ground during the fight with Bowser Jr.. This time, however, it is possible to jump on him (or, of course, hit him with fireballs).

5-3 (Arctic Ice Shelf)

This level is filled with slippery ice. The first Star Coin is located on the top of a block of ice about 1/3 into the level. Soon, the area will divide into a high and low road. Hit a block containing a Beanstalk to take the high road, or just keep going to take the low road. The low road is harder, but contains the other Star Coins. Mario should slide and duck into the low road and destroy some blocks containing the second Star Coin. After getting past the Snailicorns, Mario should Wall Jump up a wall to get the last Star Coin. Soon after that is the Flagpole.

5-Ghost House (Punch House)

This ghost house has Broozers that Mario can use to his advantage. First, Mario should let the Broozers break the blocks. To get the first Star Coin, Mario needs to let a Broozer break some blocks under him, so he can Wall Jump to the coin. Next, Mario needs to run and jump to a door in the corner of a room. He should quickly Wall Jump to get the second Star Coin (the third coin is in the Secret Exit). Then, the player should keep going up to find a platform that carries Mario up. It will then stop, wiggle around, fall down, and lastly, it will shoot up to the top. When Mario leaves the platform and goes through the door, he will be at the Flagpole.

Secret Exit

On the floor above the door that leads to the second Star Coin, the player should see three blocks together. Mario should get on top of them and jump on each one, revealing three invisible blocks. Next, Mario should get on those blocks. He should go to the middle block, then he must duck and jump, revealing another invisible block that contains a Beanstalk. Climb it, avoid the Broozer, and go through the door. There is another weird platform here. Ride it, and when you see an opening to the right, fall there to get the third Star Coin. Go through the door to reach the Red Flagpole. The Secret Exit opens a path to a cannon that takes you to World 8.

5-B (Slip-Slap Ice)

To begin this level, Mario needs to move while balancing himself on the slippery ice. Mario can get the first Star Coin by using a throwing a shell at it through a small spot. The second Star Coin can be obtained by pressing a P-Switch and by jumping over gaps to get to it. Soon, the player should see a Snailicorn. Mario should go past it to find the third Star Coin. To get a high spot on the flagpole, Mario should Wall Jump to a higher platform.

Secret Exit

To access the Secret Exit, the player must be Shell Mario. When Mario has to Wall Jump to a higher platform to get a good spot on the flagpole, he should continue to Wall Jump even higher, going above the screen. Mario should go to the left to find a pipe with blocks in front of it. Shell Mario must break the blocks to enter the pipe and to find the Red Flagpole. This opens a pipe that takes you to 5-Castle.

5-C (Broozing Cave)

File:Broozer.jpg
World 5-C.

This underground level contains Buzzy Beetles and Broozers. Mario must let a Broozer break some blocks to get the first Star Coin. After avoiding a few falling Buzzy Beetles, Mario should grab one of their shells and throw it at the second Star Coin, found past a moving platform. To get the third Star Coin (and an easier way to the Flagpole), Mario must, after the checkpoint, see a row of four bricks with a longer row above it. He should jump on the bricks, hitting a brick above the one on the far right. Then he should hit the brick he's standing on (the far right) to reveal a Beanstalk. The player should climb it to a secret area with a Broozer (pictured). Mario should hit the P-Switch and let the Broozer punch his way through some blocks to get the third Star Coin. When he goes through the narrow hole, Mario will be at the Flagpole.

5-4 (Frozen Air)

This level contains yet another new mushroom that Mario needs to get used to quickly, since the level is an auto-scrolling one. The yellow mushrooms will move down when Mario steps on them, and the red mushrooms will move up. Even worse, Bullet Bills will try to attack Mario throughout the level. The player can find a Red Coin Ring in this level. Mario can get the first Star Coin by simply jumping onto it. The second Star Coin, right next to the first one, can be obtained by either using a Mini Mushroom and by going through the small gap, or by quickly running to the other side and getting it. the last Star Coin can be found by going past a mushroom moving up. After Mario goes past a series of more mushrooms, he will reach the Flagpole.

5-Castle (Rooting Castle)

This level has many conveyor belts that Mario must jump onto, some having Piranha Plants and Dry Bones on them. Along the way, Mario will find the first Star Coin. Later, Mario should see three conveyor belts with some Dry Bones moving along them, and even a springboard. He should jump on the moving springboard to get the second Star Coin. To get the last Star Coin, Mario should first notice that, after a Super Piranha Plant, there will be a block with a hole in the ceiling above it. Mario should run and jump to the block and then Wall Jump through the hole in the ceiling. When the player goes to the right, they will fall down. Go to the left to get the last Star Coin. After going through the double doors, Mario will find Petey Piranha. If Mario doesn't have a Fire Flower, he must wait for Petey to pound the ice and fall. Then, Mario must Stomp on Petey three times to defeat him, thereby going to World 6. If Mini Mario beats Petey (by Ground Pounding him three times), he will go to World 7 instead.
