Black Yoshi is a Yoshi that first appears in Yoshi's Story. He is an unlockable character that has not appeared in a lot of games. He and the White Yoshi are special, as they have certain abilities that give them advantages over the other Yoshis.
History
Yoshi series
Yoshi's Story
They can be found in large, hidden eggs on pages 2-1, 2-2, 2-3 and 2-4. Black Yoshis and White Yoshis are the only Yoshis in Yoshi's Story that enjoy all the fruit, even the Red Peppers. As well as these peppers, Black Yoshis can eat other things that the rest can't, such as Black Shy Guys. Another special power they possess in Yoshi's Story is that they can fire eggs that explode in gigantic explosions, destroying more than one enemy at a time. Black Yoshi has a very low voice (the lowest of all the Yoshis in the game). One thing that should be noted is that if the player loses Black Yoshi, that the White Shy Guy can not retrieve him. The same goes for the White Yoshi.
Yoshi's Island DS
Black Yoshis reappear in Yoshi's Island DS, playable in the Secret levels of each world. Unlike in Yoshi's Story, these Black Yoshi do not have any special powers.
Mario Power Tennis
In Mario Power Tennis, Yoshi can change colors every time he performs a Rolling Egg Return, provided the player has completed the Flower Cup with any character. One of the colors that Yoshi can turn is black.
Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door
In Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, black is one of the colours the player's Yoshi can come out as.
Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time
In Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time, Black Yoshi appeared once, during the battle with Sunnycide. (This Black Yoshi was not present in the Japanese version of the game, a Yellow Yoshi taking his place.[1] Because the European release was later than the Japanese, It happens there as well.) Like the other Yoshis, he can be freed from his egg, and run to push a rock. He is the second to hatch (the first being Green Yoshi) when opening the Yoob egg.
