Smash Cards were a series of e-cards created in Adobe Flash made to promote the release of Super Smash Bros. on the Nintendo 64. There were six cards made, each starring a different Nintendo character.
Description
Each Smash Card follows a similar structure, beginning with a notification that the viewer has received a Smash Card, followed by one of six characters showing up and saying the following quote: "Strange things are afoot in the world of Nintendo! Join the battle at www.smashbros.com", followed by a short animation. Six cards were made, starring Mario, Link, Donkey Kong, Pikachu, Yoshi, and Kirby, respectively. The Link Smash Card is currently lost, as the archived versions do not work.
Card plotlines
Mario
The animation begins with Mario in a corner in full boxing regalia, acting like he is preparing to fight someone, though there is no one there. His shadow then morphs into Donkey Kong, who punches him offscreen. Determined, Mario begins whaling on "Donkey Kong", before it is revealed that he was in fact fighting nothing. Yoshi and Kirby show up, with the former making the "cuckoo" motion with their finger regarding Mario's behavior. The text "Nintendo's biggest stars are training hard... ARE YOU?" then appears onscreen.
Donkey Kong
The animation begins with Link playing the flute while standing on a hill, which annoys Donkey Kong. Donkey Kong then comes over and punts Link off the hill and stomps on his flute. The text "Donkey Kong: One Bad Monkey" then appears onscreen.
Kirby
The animation opens with the text "Just when you thought it was safe to go back to the forest..." appearing onscreen. The text then disappears, and the animation shows Kirby walking through a forest. Donkey Kong then appears, attempting to scare Kirby, who swallows him and gives a thumbs-up to the viewer. The text "When Nintendo's Stars Attack III" appears onscreen.
Pikachu
The animation begins with four green Yoshies in a clearing. Pikachu then approaches and waves to the group. The animation cuts between the facial expressions of each Yoshi, who then proceed to attack Pikachu, who then stumbles around and collapses after they have finished. The text "Don't confuse cute with cuddly" then appears onscreen.
Yoshi
The animation opens with a shot of buildings shaking, which is revealed to be caused by Yoshi, who has inexplicably grown to be very large. This Yoshi scares away Mario, Pikachu, and Kirby, sticking their tongue out towards the camera. This event is then revealed to be a dream that Yoshi is currently having. The text "A Nintendo star-studded slamfest!" then appears onscreen.
