I think each Chapter from Paper Mario need their own article, because, they are too short describe on the page of their game. We should set up a page for each chapter that would be much more detailed with the places visited, the enemies/bosses encountered and important characters in history. We should do this for Paper Mario and Super Paper Mario, too. So, why not?

There's a LOT of stuff to trim[edit]

1. The boss section is too long. Can be fixed by just naming the Bosses and mini bosses

2. The crystal stars and special moves do NOT have to be seperate sections. They can easily be one section. They also give too much information, seeing as how they each have their own page.

3. Add the chapters sentence into the Story section.

4. I think the tattle should be its own section.

My 2 cents.

Questions[edit]

How does the gameplay change when you play as Bowser? What are the controls when you play as him?

It's played more like a side-scroller when you control Bowser, instead of an RPG. Except in Poshley Heights Almighty Rajah 17:03, 5 August 2006 (EDT)

Featured Article Material[edit]

Do any of you think Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door is good enough to be a featured article?

There should be a general paragraph on the story. Also, critical acclaim? Looks like each section is a bit short. This has been a good article for a long time – maybe I'll play the game over a 3rd time soon and make this my next game project. Wa Yoshihead.png TC@Y 23:38, 5 February 2007 (EST)

Madam Flurrie[edit]

"She can blow wind at enemies to make them dizzy and blow fake walls away, revealing secret passages. She also dreams of becoming an actress."

Isn't she already an actress? I thought she said that she was tired of the stage and took a house-vacation, until Mario came along.
~ Miniyoshi.png Luigi hc Miniyoshi.png

That is true. She returns to the stage after her adventure with Mario. -- Son of Suns

Merge[edit]

This should be merged with Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door/Chapters, I think. Who's with me? Tadaa!2.gifPlumberTadaaa!.gif

Since no one else has responded, and it's unanimous, I'll merge it.

Chapters[edit]

Shouldn't the Story and Chapter be taken out of this article, and be a moved to Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door (Chapters). After all, our Paper Mario page doesn't have a story, instead there is a seperate page for the story titled Paper Mario (Chapters). What do you guys think? My Bloody Valentine

Actually, there used to be a chapter page for this page too, but it got merged into the article. I think that one needs to be merged too.Knife (talk) 22:18, 27 June 2007 (EDT)

Audience section[edit]

The audience section looks like it has been directly copied from the audience article, it even tries to link to the article itself and also mentions Super Paper Mario. I think it needs a rewrite. - Cobold (talk · contribs) 05:51, 29 December 2007 (EST)

About the Similarities Section[edit]

The content of the Similarities section is good, but I noticed that heaps of the points say "in both games." There are 3 Paper Mario games...so I'm guessing that was written before Super Paper Mario came out. I would fix it, but I'm not exactly sure how to...I'd just stuff it up. Is that saying SPM doesn't count, just because it's half-platformer? That's unfair. Someone experienced should fix it.

someone should also add that in both paper mario and ttyd, fuzzies first appear in chapter 1

Bosses section[edit]

The Shadow Queen and Bonetail both have the Special Attack "Various Severely Dangerous Magic". I know we can't list everything here, but "dangerous" doesn't really sound like a good word here. It sounds like an opinion. I think we should replace it with something more neutral. - Cobold (talk · contribs) 17:46, 2 January 2009 (EST)

Fake Images or Official Artwork?[edit]

While drifting through various pages related to Paper Mario 2 I noticed that there are articles with pictures that just... look wrong somehow. Characters with poses and facial expressions they actually never took during the game. I will make a list:

  • Bub - What is with his eye?
  • Businessman - See the article's talk page
  • Cleftor - I remember his facial expression to look different, especially his eyes.
  • Francesca - May just be taken during an unfortunate moment, but it looks strange.
  • Frankie - He never does anything like that in the game iIrc, and it looks strange.
  • Goldbob - His feet look misplaced.
  • Green Fuzzy - See the article's talk page.
  • Lucky - Same as Bub.
  • Rocko/Vinny/Tony - Both of their arms are visible in the game, here it is only one of them.
  • Toodles - I cannot recall her to blink like she does in the picture anywhere.

These are some of the articles with pictures I find strange. What do you think about this? Please leave your opinion. - Gabumon from the Digimon franchise Gabumon(talk) 16:49, 21 October 2009 (EDT)

A former user named Yoshi Mastar (talk) made these images in around 2006. He utilized the pieces from this link, and attempted to recreate the image of the character himself. Unfortunately, since he left (presumably for other stuff), these images remain in the database. Should we renew the images with more clear detail anyway? -RAP.pngRAP... 01:34, 7 November 2009 (EST)

Definitelly. Some of them are ok, but the other ones don't look that right. - Gabumon from the Digimon franchise Gabumon(talk) 01:37, 7 November 2009 (EST)
So I'm guessing we should remove the mentioned pictures? --Garlic Man (talk)

Goofs[edit]

There are a few translation errors in the game.

"You got a super boots" "You got a ultra boots"

Also, the phantom sisters (or whatever) are referred to once as "male" due to their being male in the Japanese version.

PoisonMushroom 05:57, 10 July 2010 (UTC)

I don't think so. Those two errors never happened to me, and they also were never referred to as male in the Us version. 22360415-149x149-0-0 ++The+SpongeBob+SquarePants+Movie.jpg Boo der dash 180px-MaskedDedede.png

To learn more about this "male" topic, you can go to Vivian's page User:J-yoshi

Here's one more mistake I found, but I'm not sure if I'm right. If you use Double Dip and discards the second item, the game will ask you, "Don't use this item? (Yes/No)", and Yes means to discard the item while No means to use one. My English teacher said that No means "don't do the thing", not "do the opposite of what you say". Another gossip-loving Toad (talk) 22:08, 17 January 2015 (EST)

Gallery[edit]

Why doesn't the page have a full gallery? There's only the Japanese boxart and two scenes. Most major characters in this game have artwork, so we should probably have a gallery with all those artworks. Emerald Star Owner[edit]

Wasn't it originally owned by the puni elder?

Nope, They were guarding it, but nobody had been down to the room in years, since at least before the current puni elder came to power.

Incorrect?[edit]

The glitches section mistaken calls the emblem badges (Which alter your appearance to look like Luigi, Wario, and Waluigi) a glitch, while in reality, they were an intended part of the game (Evidenced by the trouble you can only complete while wearing the L emblem badge.) As I don't have an account, or for that matter, editing privileges, I thought I'd bring it to attention to be fixed. Really, the whole glitch section could be expanded on and cleaned up, because it leaves much to be desired.

Create a article for each Paper Mario chapters[edit]

Settledproposal.svg This talk page proposal has already been settled. Please do not edit any of the sections in the proposal. If you wish to discuss the article, do so in a new header below the proposal.

DO NOT CREATE 4-9

I think each Chapter from Paper Mario need their own article, because, they are too short describe on the page of their game. We should set up a page for each chapter that would be much more detailed with the places visited, the enemies/bosses encountered and important characters in history. We should do this for Paper Mario and Super Paper Mario, too. So, why not?

Support[edit]

  1. LudwigVon (talk) Per my proposal
  2. Binarystep (talk) Per LudwigVon.
  3. Toadbrigade5 (talk) Yeah, the Story section is kinda cluttered too. Per
  4. Marioluigikid (talk) This sounds REALLY nesacery (Sorry, I cant spell XD). Per in all favor!

Oppose[edit]

  1. SuperYoshiBros (talk) I don't think it's necessary. Besides, if we make it any longer it will probably start to sound like a walkthrough.
  2. Tails777 (talk) The idea of levels and chapters are pretty different. Paper Mario: Sticker Star and Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon are more similar to levels in mainstream games (games like Super Mario World or New Super Mario Bros. for example) while Paper Mario and Paper Mario: TTYD's chapters are simply meant to split the overall long storyline into sections. Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, while it did have a story, it was more mission based as with Sticker Star (if Sticker Star's "storyline" is even considered one). In short; Paper Mario/TTYD's chapter system is different when compared to Dark Moon/Sticker Star's mission system and the chapters aren't really considered levels.
  3. SmokedChili (talk) Per all.
  4. Walkazo (talk) - Per Time Turner. Having separate chapters will likely users to wrote long, crufty summaries that aren't, which we don't want even if they avoid walkthrough-style writing. The overviews of the main plot points on the game page are enough, with the specifics about the storylines found on the relevant character and location pages instead. Or, in SPM's case, into level pages, with the existing chapter-equivalent location pages like Lineland mainly serving as hubs, as they should, since going over the plot three times (the game page, a world/chapter/etc. page and the specific locations/level pages - plus character bios) would be very redundant.
  5. Stonehill (talk) Per all, especially Walkazo.
  6. Yoshi876 (talk) Per Walkazo.
  7. Burningdragon25 (talk) Per all on this case! I like it stood as a story!
  8. Viper26 (talk) Per Walkazo.
  9. Lumastar (talk) Per all.

Comments[edit]

SuperYoshiBros, the wiki have a page for each level of Paper Mario: Sticker Star, each level of Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon. Since, chapters from Paper Mario and it's two first sequels works like level, we need a article for each.--LudwigVon Sig.png(TALK) 19:53, 31 March 2015 (EDT)

Not really. We already have the summaries on the game pages, and each location has its own page. If you can tell me what these chapter pages would add to the wiki that we don't already have, I may reconsider. --Waluigi's head icon in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Too Bad! Waluigi Time! 21:07, 31 March 2015 (EDT)

There are plenty of other games that have stories as well, like Paper Mario or Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Making a proposal for just this and not the other ones is far too inconsistent. Hello, I'm Time Turner.

If you read my comment above about the proposal, it say (maybe not clearly) that I will also do it for Paper Mario and Super Paper Mario.--LudwigVon Sig.png(TALK) 15:38, 1 April 2015 (EDT)

Misprint in the Insert![edit]

The name of the very first special move (the one you get from the actual map) is Sweet Treat, but the manual/insert in my case calls it "Tasty Treat"

Just thought I'd share that information :)

Characters and locations[edit]

I have a small suggestion is that we could add the characters encountered in the game in each of the items that correspond to locations in the game? It would be convenient. Some of the locations articles of this game miss it.--LudwigVon Sig.png(TALK) 14:40, 12 November 2015 (EST)

Sorry for the late edit, but I just look a it today. Well, by example, I look at Rogueport Sewers article and I found it not completed, because we cannot see the characters we can encountered in the sewers and It's really annoying, because I always need to check in the template to the end of the page and It's hard to find them.

Regional differences - incorrect language regarding Vivian[edit]

It should be "a cisgender girl instead of a transgender girl" instead of "a cisgender female instead of a male-to-female gender dysphoriac" with links to the cisgender and transgender wikipedia pages each of those words
The preceding unsigned comment was added by Clockwork erin (talk).

Transgender and gender dysphoric are synonyms, though, regardless of what some people say. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 02:13, 5 November 2018 (EST)
I disagree. Transgender means the person identifies as the gender "opposite" to their birth sex (i.e. a person or was born male but identifies as a woman or who was born female but identifies as a man) whereas gender dysphoria refers specifically to the distress that may arise due to not identifying as cisgender.
Sources: "Gender dysphoria (GD) is the distress a person feels due to their birth-assigned sex and gender not matching their gender identity. People who experience gender dysphoria are typically transgender." - [1]

Suggestion to move regional differences of this page into a subpage[edit]

There's a lot of differences between the Japanese and international versions that haven't been covered yet so I suggest we should make the regional differences part of this main page into its own subpage since the main page is already quite long. Mr. Kite (talk) 21:08, November 14, 2020 (EST)

The thing is that we haven't really had dedicated regional difference pages yet (the closest being some names in other languages articles, used for a few Super Mario Odyssey lists for example). That would set a new precedent that should have a greater discussion. Currently, for articles like Super Mario Bros. 3 and Donkey Kong Country, we have version differences but encourage going to TCRF for a more comprehensive look. We can do the same for Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door and maybe others like Super Mario Sunshine in the meantime. LinkTheLefty (talk)

Mini-Yoshi's Stampede and Smash Bros. Melee's opening[edit]

A given name for the green Toad sailor[edit]

I was reordering the Toad template in the Italian Wikia (comparing it with yours) and I noticed that the unnamed green Toad sailor that appears in this game, does have a name in the Italian version (which is "Ansio", which derives from "Anxiety") and so does the brother ("Ansio Maggiore", "Bigger Ansio"). I'm checking if the character does have names in other languages through Dolphin emulator. The question is, once I have the names list... which one can we use for his page?

The current list:

Language Name Meaning Notes
French Marin Toad
Toad peureux
Toad Sailor
Scared Toad
German Furchtsamen Matrose Timid/Scared Sailor
Italian Ansio From "Ansia" (Anxiety)
Spanish Marinero Toad
Marinero con cara de asustado
Toad Sailor
Scared looking sailor

PS: As for now, the brother is just called, in other languages a part from Italian, "the Toad Sailor/Scared Toad's brother"

Add item list would be turning this into a walkthrough?[edit]

No, you're correct, this page is clearly incomplete and definitely needs an item list. Our article on the previous game Paper Mario, has an item list. Furthermore, we do have a navigation template on items, but it's a separate template, making it certainly more of an unnecessary challenge to browse through all the items in the game.

Vivian's identity[edit]

Section 14.4 (Regional differences - Aesthetic changes) notes that Vivian is not portrayed as a male-to-female gender dysphoric in the English and German scripts. However, in her respective article it reads "Vivian is inconsistently depicted as either a transgender woman, or as a male-identifying cross-dresser ..." Should we change one of the articles to match the other? I believe changing this one to state that Vivian is not portrayed as a transgender female in the English and German translations of the game would work well as well as make her descriptions across articles consistent. --JoeCool (talk) 22:40, October 18, 2023 (EDT)
