They are found driving on their own at a relatively low speed on the main streets. They are not found driving on shortcuts, so it is sometimes safer to take a shortcut than to get hit.
The effect of hitting a Red Car has the same effect as hitting a banana, simply leading to a wipe-out. A common trouble is to get stuck on the car while wiping out and wiping out yet again. They cannot be killed or eliminated; the only way to harm a Red Car is to hit it while using a Star, to run it over with a Chain Chomp, or to hit it with a Bowser Shell.
Trivia
- The Red Car and the Blue Car in Mario Kart: Double Dash!! are virtually the same, except different colors.
- In Mario Party DS, a mini-game which features wind-up cars, has a red-colored car.
