Morton's Lava-Block Castle, or Layer-Cake Desert-Castle is the Castle level of Layer-Cake Desert in New Super Luigi U. It is unlocked by completing Spinning Sandstones and its own completion unlocks Huckit Beach Resort and Broozers and Barrels.

Layout

The player begins the level near a moving platform with a Red Ring above it. A group of smaller moving platforms are found lowering into the lava. More moving platforms are seen, along with a group of Brick Blocks. A moving platform with a Dry Bones on it appears, followed by one contains multiple Dry Bones. More moving platforms are encountered, along with a stationary platform. Several smaller platforms are found rising out of the lava. At the end of the area, the boss door is seen on a platform. Morton serves as the castle's boss, and the fight is identical to the one in New Super Mario Bros. U.

Star Coins

  • Star Coin 1: The first Star Coin is encased inside a box made of Brick Blocks. The player must jump on top of the box and ground pound in order to retrieve the it.
  • Star Coin 2: First, the player must get an Ice Flower to freeze a Dry Bones. To get the second Star Coin, the player must wait until the stone blocks are separated and throw the Dry Bones into the lava at the Star Coin. Alternatively, the player can jump off of the middle block just as it sinks or towards it as it rises to claim it.
  • Star Coin 3: The player must jump from the last stone block in the level over the door leading to the boss fight to collect the last Star Coin.

Luigi Sightings

  • Behind the second Star Coin, there is an 8-bit Luigi that appears to be sinking in the lava.
