Their is only one instance where they are both seen. That is when the fire is put out. They are not on the same screen. If it wasn't a DS, you wouldn't see them together really. The old professor's memory was changed. This may be a reason for split or not split. Mario/Luigi Age

In Luigi's Mansion, E. Gadd states after Luigi defeats King Boo that he hasn't seen anything like that in forty years. That means that Mario and Luigi have to be 20 years old, meaning E. Gadd hadn't seen anything like that in his whole life, or 40 years old, meaning E. Gadd hadn't seen anything like that since Thwomp Valcano erupted. MarioFan9999 17:12, 20 July 2008 (EDT)

If you can site sources for E. Gadd's age at the time of both PiT and LM, then we can put that in the bros. articles. Because it's a round number, I think we should say that they are about 20 rather than 20 on the nose. Unfortuanatley, we can't pin their ages as fact because we can't say for sure that E. Gadd was referring to the volcano incident. Stumpers! 17:32, 20 July 2008 (EDT)

Well, in Luigi's Mansion, E. Gadd said that he was working in Boo's Woods since he was about twenty. That means in PiT, he was around twenty years old. With his quote after beating King Boo, that means in LM he was either 40 or 60 meaning that either way, he was twenty years older than Mario/Luigi (I expect he's 60, judging by his white hair.) Picture

Look at the picture shown for E. Gadd in the article, notice anything different? The Poltergust on his back is in fact beta. It's in its "square" form. Notice it's lacking wheels, and has some switches on the side. Personally I like it better than the Poltergust used in the game, but that's just my opinion. We might wanna get a more up-to-date picture though. Oh yeah, on a side note, the fight with Boolossus was originally supposed to have been done with Luigi riding the Poltergust, in a way I always pictured similar to the Super Poltergust 3001, that might be something to add. --LUIGIMAN739 01:11, 12 September 2009 (EDT)

Split Young Elvin Gadd from Professor Elvin Gadd

Template:SettledTPP SPLIT 12-2

Tell me, why do we have Young Elvin Gadd merged to Professor Elvin Gadd, but we don't have Toadsworth the Younger merged with Toadsworth? Or Baby Mario with Mario? Or Baby Luigi with Luigi? Or Baby Peach with Peach? Et cetera, et cetera. Since it's inconsistent to have Young E. Gadd merged with his older self, I propose to split him.

Support

  1. Reversinator (talk) Per proposal.
  2. Reddragon19k (talk) I say per him and that is that!
  3. Zero777 (talk) 'Gonna say no but you do have a valid point, per all.
  4. Goomba's Shoe15 (talk) Per consistency and this proposal
  5. UltraMario3000 (talk) Per all.
  6. Nicke8 (talk) Per guy who reverses things.
  7. Tails777 (talk) He does play an important role in the game so per all.
  8. DKPetey99 (talk) If this fails, then we merge Mario with Baby Mario and Toadsworth with Toadsworth the Younger. Per all and my comments.
  9. Magikrazy51 (talk) Per all. Also, we shan't merge Toadsworth's younger self, DRJavelin. That would be like merging Cackletta, Bowletta and Cackletta's Soul.
  10. Supremo78 (talk) Per all.
  11. Superfiremario (talk) Per DKPetey99.
  12. Mario Bros.! (talk) Per all

Oppose

  1. Dr Javelin (talk) Young Elvin Gadd is merged because he only appeared in one game, and only in one chapter. In my opinion, Toadsworth the Younger should also be merged with Toadsworth. The other babies are seperate because they appear in spin-offs with different stats than their older selves.
  2. MarioMaster720 (talk) Per Dr Javelin. I think that maybe Toadsworth and Toadsworth the Younger should be merged as well, depending on his role in the story (I haven't played the game). Isn't splitting this like creating a new wikipedia article for Younger Beethoven for example. It could be split into "Elvin Gadd's youth", but it would probably be a stub? Besides, if his name isn't official, his appearance barely is different and he has a minor role wouldn't the new article be a stub as well???

Comments

Was the past E. Gadd in M&L:PiT actually called "Young E. Gadd", or was he just called "E. Gadd" with the "young" being affixed by us? And does he even look different in the past than in the present? The baby characters and Toadsworth the Younger all co-exist with their future selves, but aside from some sort of mind link between past and present (iirc), there is only ever one E. Gadd, so I feel like differentiating his two iterations would be unnecessary if we're not being forced to by an official name or design change. - Walkazo (talk)

I haven't played PiT in a while, so I'm not sure about the name, but I'm sure he looked different. --Reversinator 12:52, 23 June 2011 (EDT)

@DKPetey99: Baby Mario shouldn't be merged because he appears in several spin-offs alongside his older self with different stats. Toadsworth the Younger can be merged because he only appears in one game and does not have much info available on him. Dr Javelin (talk) @MarioMaster: It won't be a stub if we put in all the info we can on him. Setting the record straight, The Magikrazy Magikrazy.png.

I love this proposal and I love it split! E. Gadd is old and Young Gadd is young! I say split it! Reddragon19k 18:58, 1 July 2011 (EDT)

@Dr Javelin, Baby Wario appears in one game, is he merged with Wario? DKPetey99DKPetey99TCE 14:54, 2 July 2011 (EDT)

@DKPetey99: All of the babies are playable. Toadsworth the Younger and E. Gadd aren't. Young E Gadd and Toadsworth also have relatively small roles in the PiT story and don't really merit their own articles. Good point, though. Dr Javelin (talk)

It doesn't matter that he's minor, he still deserves his own article. YoshiwakerTyranitar.png

Other names

Gad Zooks, Ollie Smokes, Yur Eka. And something else, I'll say when I remember. In PiT, at the start of thwomp volcano a toad who can't remember his name calls him those. RPG Gamer. I HAVE RPG!! (talk) 12:38, 1 April 2013 (EDT)

Black background or transparent background?

I've noticed that recently the infobox picture of E. Gadd has been changed to the black background picture. I've known for some time that it is the transparent picture that is used for other characters, and I've even seen some pictures replaced with the transparent background, and the black one deleted. I'm just wondering if I'm not getting the message about why the picture is retaining the black background. MarioComix (talk) 20:10, 4 April 2013 (EDT)

The picture is the latest official portrayal of E. Gadd and until we can find the official transparent image, the black background stays. And besides, it looks better with the black background. BabyLuigiFire.pngRay Trace(T|C) 20:11, 4 April 2013 (EDT)

To precise, the staff decided to go back to the black background jpegs since the transparent pictures lose most of the glow and lightning effects and look worse for it. Nothing to do with the transparency being "official" or not, which is a pretty asinine thing to worry about as far as I am concerned. --Glowsquid (talk) 21:42, 4 April 2013 (EDT)

All right, thanks for clearing that up. MarioComix (talk) 23:18, 4 April 2013 (EDT)

Professor E Gadd in Nintendo Land

Prof. E Gadd has a cameo in Nintendo Land by the fact in the game 'Luigi's Ghost Mansion' he is the one describing the stages (although he does not actually appear) and the Research Lab is heavily implied to be his. Shouldn't we include this?

Split Young Professor E. Gadd and This Article

Proposal.svg This talk page section contains an unresolved talk page proposal. Please try to help and resolve the issue by voting or leaving a comment.

Current time: Sunday, November 24, 2024, 10:36 GMT

Professor E. Gadd and Young Professor E. Gadd really should be split. If so it will be much easier for people to find information on the younger E. Gadd and articles like Toadsworth and Toadsworth the Younger, Midbus and Blizzard Midbus, Fawful and Dark Fawful, Peach's Castle and Super Peach's Castle (I could go on) are all split and so should these articles. Also many people want a lot of information on the Mario series and we want this place to be the place.

Split the articles

  1. Fawful's Minion (talk) Per my reason above 🔼
  2. Tails777 (talk) Regardless of the reasoning for merging them, I see no reason to separate Young E. Gadd and E. Gadd from any other younger/older counterparts. Young E. Gadd should get the same treatment as Toadsworth the Younger, Baby Mario, Baby Luigi and Baby Peach.
  3. AfternoonLight (talk) Split it and per both!
  4. Quizmelon (talk) If Toadsworth is split from his younger self, so should E Gadd. Per Tails777.
  5. Mario jc (talk) Per Tails777.
  6. Yoshi the Space Station Manager (talk) I firmly belive that this would be a good idea. Young Professor Elvin Gadd may appear again.

Keep it the same

  1. Aokage (talk) Per the 2014 proposal that merged the pages.
  2. Reboot (talk) Per Madz the Penguin (talk) in the successful remerge proposal

Comments

I'll quote my older comment here: "[The Super Mario-Kun] names this form as 過去のオヤ・マー博士 (Kakono Oya Mā-hakase), a similar naming convention that is applied to Toadsworth the Younger, 過去のキノじい, (Kakono Kinojī), which means, from my very extremely shoddy Japanese ie Goggles Translight, Past Toadsworth and Past E. Gadd or something similar. Not sure if it will strengthen the argument for a split again, but I just feel the need to point that out." If we're going to move it back, we should call the page "Kakono Oya Mā-hakase". BabyLuigiFire.pngRay Trace(T|C) 21:46, 23 July 2016 (EDT)

I'd like to play devil's advocates on certain points on the 2014 proposal:

1. The babies or young counterparts appeared along side their older counterparts. Young E. Gadd didn't.

That's probably the strongest reason they're merged together. In this form, this could simply be a variation of E. Gadd in the past. However, we do have articles on separate egos and personas such as Mr. L, but then again, if that's the case, the two Kameks in Yoshi's Island DS should be split simply from time period alone and Mr. L's case is different, as he clearly thinks he's a separate individual as well as other characters, who treat him that way.

2. The only notable difference is the hair. Yes, the hair. Toadsworth the Younger had some personality differences, like caring less about Peach or not having to hold a cane. The babies were more playful than their older counterparts for obvious reasons. Young E. Gadd just has slightly different studies and his fabulous hair, but we could easily put that in the history section of E. Gadd's article.

This isn't a strong point. In case of Blue Toad, Yellow Toad, and the entire separate articles on the Yoshi species, appearance alone doesn't count whether a character receives his own article. Personality-wise, none of the characters I mentioned have very strong, distinct personalities either. Their role they play is the best indicator why they're split off and in this article's case, he does play a separate enough role and has a distinct enough appearance to receive his own article here.

However, point 1 comes into play again, which is why it's also reasonable to have him merged as well.

3. This guy doesn't have a real name. I mean, we could say that about Dr. Toad, but at least he's different than Toad or Dr. Toadley. This guy is just...Young E. Gadd. Yeah, not a different character or anything. Just E. Gadd with good hair that may bring all the girls to the cave.

He does have a real name. My first comment in this proposal above is from official Mario media, just not from the video game itself. Our Pump Mario article is derived from the fact that the form is called "Beibi Ponpu" in the Super Mario-Kun which roughly translates to "Baby Pump". If that's the only official name we receive (and the Super Mario-Kun has official naming conventions in it and is 99% accurate with them), then the article should be named that.

4. This article is short. It's not a stub, but most babies or young character articles have at least a couple of paragraphs or so. The last sentence admits how needless this article is just to say, "Hey, I'm short, so let me say how worthless this article is in my final sentence". It's so short, even a Bowseritis article could be longer than this article (Just a FYI, nobody should make a Bowseritis article here).

The length of the article hardly matters on MarioWiki. What does matter if it enhances reader navigation and provide a better experience for our readers, who may be tempted to search for this particular E. Gadd form. Just as having a bunch of short articles on, say, the Yoshi colors in Yoshi's Wooly World is a bad thing, so is merging every single Badge from the Paper Mario series overly bloats the article and hinders navigation. This is why we handle subjects like this on a case-by-case basis, and for this article, its length isn't an issue at all.
