Distinction

Why put people in the real world and fictional characters in the same category? Notions that "Satoru Iwata and Cackletta are both deceased" sound weird to me... A gossip-loving Toad (Talk) 03:23, 19 May 2016 (EDT)

Not to mention Bob Hoskins, Christopher Collins, Danny Wells, Dennis Hopper, Gunpei Yokoi, Hiroshi Yamauchi, Kate Fleming, and Lou Albano. I think we should have Category:Deceased (fictional) and Category:Deceased (non-fictional). --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 03:35, 19 May 2016 (EDT)
I don't know why, probably the one who put it there felt like it needed to be there but Princess Shroob and Bob Hoskins being in a category together doesn't really make sense to me either. I will have a talk with a Sysop and get something sorted. The RPG Gamer (talk) (edits) Sprite of Prince Dreambert from Mario & Luigi: Dream Team. 03:55, 19 May 2016 (EDT)
Hi. I would split this into Template:Fakelink and Template:Fakelink. I think it looks better than using parenthesis. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 16:29, 19 May 2016 (EDT)
I think there is a problem with that naming scheme. There are fictional people in that list, such as Grandma Mario and Daisy's mother. Sure, character and people makes a distinction, but I don't think the distinction is clear enough. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 16:37, 19 May 2016 (EDT)
Fair point. Before anything gets done: is this category even necessary? I'm not entirely sure it is. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 16:40, 19 May 2016 (EDT)
I don't see why it wouldn't be necessary, Tucayo. It sounds like important info, at least to me, anyway. And those characters are fictional, Wildgoosespeeder, which is what we're trying to make the distinction of. Characters played by real people (Actors) are fictional, but the actors themselves are non-fictional. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 16:43, 19 May 2016 (EDT)
Technically these MarioWiki entries about the deceased are correctly categorized, but in a respectful sense (for a lack of a better term), it feels awkward to group fictional and non-fictional entries in the same category. Alex95 (talk), I did try to come up with a good naming scheme as mentioned earlier. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 16:45, 19 May 2016 (EDT)
Oh, my bad. I read that wrong...
Regardless, I think it'd be a good idea. We have a List of characters and a List of people for the living, so why not for the dead? Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 16:53, 19 May 2016 (EDT)
Oh boy...this got complicated really fast. Have to be consistent too. In that case, I have nothing. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 16:56, 19 May 2016 (EDT)
Yeah, that does look a bit strange, doesn't it? I say we go for the split. It'd be easier for users on the wiki who want to find a non-fictional deceased person in a separate page rather than find them scrambled on a page with several fictional characters. Splitting is good. Discard items.jpg TabuuandPeach K.K. Dixie.png 19:19, 19 May 2016 (EDT)

Split Category from Mario characters and real people

Personally it's kind of weird having characters like Kolorado's father being on a category with real life people like Satoru Iwata. I think we should split the category so it's like category:deceased characters category:deceased people.

Support

  1. Fawful's Minion (talk) Per my reason above. 🔼
  2. Megadardery (talk) Per proposal, there is no reason to keep them merged in the first place.
  3. Baby Luigi (talk) Sure, I'll along with that.
  4. Wildgoosespeeder (talk) This category split is purely to respect the deaths of real people instead of having them mixed with fictional deaths. One category of deceased is sad and the other is for dramatic effect.
  5. LudwigVon (talk) - Per all.
  6. BabyLuigi64 (talk) Per all.
  7. Roy Koopa (talk) Saying Satoru Iwata is on the same level as Cackletta is not only disrespectful to Iwata, but it's also weird because it's almost like merging the real world and the fictional world. Per all.
