A Balloon Battle at Tilt-a-Kart.

Tilt-a-Kart is a battle course in Mario Kart: Double Dash!! The course is a large platform that forms out the original, 8-bit, pixelated form of Mario, with the color palette that he had in Super Mario Bros.

As the name may imply, the course tilts side-to-side, slightly interrupting the battle. White tiles surrounding Mario's figure can slow down the Karts that attempt to get into. As a result, these karts are easy target to be hit by an item. Aditionally, when players fall off, they are placed on small white platforms above the Tilt-a-Kart, which they are forced to drive off of and onto the course. Like certain ones on the Daisy Cruiser, Item Boxes tilt around on the stage as the stage itself does.

This course is unlockable, and is unlocked when the Flower Cup is beaten in Mirror Mode, being the last battle course to be unlocked.

Trivia

  • The background of the course is somewhat similar to that of the Secret Areas in Super Mario Sunshine.
  • The music in this course is somewhat based on that of the Super Mario Bros. main theme and Baby Park.
  • Although it is essentially the same tune as that of Baby Park, there is a slight difference in the music for this stage. The cymbals are louder, and the instrument that plays the chords in Baby Park is an octave lower.
  • The battle course is similar to the 8-bit planet in the Toy Time Galaxy from Super Mario Galaxy and Mario Squared Galaxy from Super Mario Galaxy 2.
  • The fact that the players must drive off the white platform after they fall off the arena may be based on Mario Bros. when the players lose a life, they restart on a small platform above the stage, where they must jump off to start the game.
  • This is the only battle course in Mario Kart: Double Dash!! that the players can fall off the course.
