:And the remake has come out. This isn't nearly as bad as the "King K" thing, of course, but still. At least in the original, his dialogue box calls him Johnny, in battle he's called Johnny, his pirates call him Johnny. His full name appears in one of Dr Topper's questions, which asks his full name, in the dialogue of the Yaridovich Toads, and in his letter, which is signed 'Jonathan “Johnny” Jones'. Not sure about the remake, but it seems to be about the same there. Even if not a King K, this is still an E Gadd situation, I'd say. How is he a magician?Knife (talk) 15:58, 1 July 2007 (EDT)

So it says he has no last name in the Japanese version, then goes on to say his Japanese version is Jonasan Jonzu. Which is true? Dazuro 08:55, 19 June 2010 (UTC)

Anthropomorphic Shark or Shark Costume?[edit]

Is he actually an anthropomorphic shark as the article suggests, or is he in a shark suit? I ask this because he appears ho have another pair of eyes inside his mouth. --Seandwalsh (talk) 19:55, 14 November 2018 (EST)

...possibly? Those might be serpentine slit eyes in there, or they might just be snaggly teeth. The Birdies from the same game are definitely in costumes, so it's not completely unreasonable to assume others might also be. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 19:57, 14 November 2018 (EST)
If you check the note he leaves behind after fighting Yaridovich, it reads "Well, my gills are failing on me, so I'll be headin' back down." LinkTheLefty (talk) 06:43, 18 November 2018 (EST)
Well that makes him be among the vaguely-defined taxonomy-wise category of "fish." Presumably. Heck, he could even be a shark in a shark suit. Or that could always be a Woolseyism, Ted Wooolsey himself worked on this translation. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 06:55, 18 November 2018 (EST)
There are many "Woolseyisms" in this game, but surprisingly, the Japanese line is: 「戦えねェけど海に来たら、またあそびにこいや。」 (which doesn't specifically mention gills but does state that he couldn't fight with Mario since he's out of breath on land). Although personally, I never saw the costumes since the model artwork always seemed off even compared to the game sprites (I swear, Bowser's face is just a bunch of balls held together by string and that Czar Dragon looks downright unfinished). He could be a fish in a shark costume. Rouge2 (talk)

Moving[edit]

When the remake comes out, this should probably be moved to "Johnny", for the same reason as the move from KP Pete to King K. Blinker (talk) 15:25, November 13, 2023 (EST)

And the remake has come out.
