Bogmire, the Cemetery Shadow, is a purple portrait ghost of unknown age from the game Luigi's Mansion. The ghoul resided in the Graveyard of Luigi's Mansion during the events of the game. Bogmire is the manifestation of the mansion's fear and despair, although the powerful ghost itself does not know who to fear or what to despair. Bogmire can summon shadowy duplicates of himself. He can also teleport around an area with a flash of lightning. Bogmire was the boss of the second area of Luigi's Mansion.

Luigi encountered the powerful Bogmire during his quest to save his brother Mario from King Boo. During Luigi's investigation of the Graveyard, the green-clad hero discovered three Mr. Bones hiding in the tombstones. After dispatching them with the Poltergust 3000, the main headstone began to glow. As Luigi approached the stone, Bogmire revealed himself and transported Luigi to his cemetery lair.
Bogmire can only be fought after Luigi vacuums every Mr. Bones in the Graveyard, as by doing so, the large headstone begins to glow. When Luigi approaches it, lightning strikes near the tombstone as Bogmire springs out, and Luigi jumps back in horror. He is then transported into a mysterious arena, where a large Black Bogmire comes out and approaches him, while several others also appear in the field. Bogmire teleports around the arena, with his presence announced by lightning strikes and the appearance of his shadow; his only means of offense is spawning shadowy translucent doppelgangers called Black Bogmires from the ground (and often from his actual shadow). To vacuum Bogmire, Luigi must suck up any of the Black Bogmires with his Poltergust 3000, shaping it into a ball that he can aim at Bogmire. If hit, he is enveloped by the ball of shadow, rendering him vulnerable. Bogmire is one of the trickier ghosts to vacuum up, and may break free of Luigi's grasp within a few seconds. Additionally, he deliberately tries to pull Luigi through any active Black Bogmires. After capturing Bogmire, Luigi is returned to the Graveyard, where a large chest with the key to the Courtyard appears.

Once in the lair, Luigi and Bogmire began to battle. To attack the novice ghost hunter, Bogmire created shadowy clones of himself, ranging from miniature-sized ghosts to enormous duplicates. These shadowy spirits would then attack Luigi as Bogmire warped around the arena, avoiding the green-clad hero. Unfortunately, Luigi discovered he could not suck Bogmire up with the Poltergust 3000. To capture Bogmire, Luigi had to pull in one of Bogmire's shadow clones with the Poltergust. The ghost would then form into a shadowy ball at the end of Luigi's vacuum weapon. The plumber could then fire the shadow ball at Bogmire, surrounding the ghost in darkness and rendering him vulnerable. With the ghost's heart revealed, Luigi could finally use the Poltergust against Bogmire. However, as Luigi was pulling the powerful ghost in, the plumber also had to avoid the shadowy duplicates who converged on his position, hoping to free Bogmire and injure Luigi. To do that he first had to clear the arena by circling around it until the sinister shadows bunched up together while in pursuit and sucking them all. Eventually, after a hard battle, Luigi emerged the victor and captured Bogmire. Returning to the Graveyard, Luigi discovered the chest to the key to the Courtyard and the next leg of his journey began.

Bogmire, the Cemetery Shadow, is a shadowy portrait ghost that is found in Luigi's Mansion and its 3DS remake. He appears as a purple ghost with a large mouth, yellow eyes, and thin, constantly outstretched arms. Bogmire lives under a tombstone in the mansion's Graveyard, and acts as Area Two's boss. According to his Game Boy Horror entry, Bogmire is the manifestation of the mansion's fear and despair; he does not speak (making him the only area boss without any dialogue), and the Game Boy Horror cannot scan his heart for text. His name is a portmanteau of "bog" and "mire", which refer to different kinds of swampland, likely in reference to his drippy appearance. Bogmire's portrait number in the Gallery is 19.

Bogmire vanishes some time after the Black Bogmires spawn, signaled by his shadow vanishing, and he reappears elsewhere and repeat the pattern. The size of his shadow upon appearing determines the size of the specific Black Bogmire that spawns from it.

Bogmire is the only portrait ghost in the original Nintendo GameCube version who has a portrait displaying another enemy, particularly his gold frame, in which a Black Bogmire is also shown.
