Suu[1][2] are Joro-spider–like enemies introduced in Super Mario Land. They are most often seen hanging on a thread from the ceiling.

History[edit]

Super Mario Land[edit]

In their debut appearance, Suu drop from the ceiling, then immediately move back upwards slowly upon touching the floor. They can be defeated either with a stomp or two Superballs, rewarding 400 points either way. Suu appear only in World 3-2. Bigbees from Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins act like a stronger version of Suu. Additionally, a recurring spider enemy named Scuttlebug later uses string and shares a yellow-striped pattern on its abdomen.

Super Mario Kodansha manga[edit]

In the Super Mario Kodansha manga, Suu appear with Kumos in the Easton Kingdom, being entrusted more than the incompetent moai by Tatanga, much to Hiyoihoi's envy. One Suu by the name of Sue is able to change her form from spider to human and, in the latter form, pretends to help Mario, only to lure him into traps, the first of which is a Suu-infested cave. Later, Hiyoihoi, furious at both the replacement and death of his soldiers, uses a Bullet Biff Gatling gun to shoot at everyone. Protecting Sue, Mario earns her gratitude and help in defeating the boss, but with his defeat, Sue disappears. In Super Mario Land 4, a Suu is the first opponent in the Qix storyline.

Super Mario-kun[edit]

In Super Mario-kun, a singular Suu appears in the last chapter of volume 3 alongside other Super Mario Land enemies. It is seen only dangling from the ceiling.
